Spyderlord Posted September 22, 2014 Posted September 22, 2014 I know Disney plenty well, I've worked for them before. Disney has bigger fish to fry than micromanaging LFL about an animated series. And don't forget that the hell of Kingdom of the Sun led to Emperor's New Groove, a far fresher & funnier film than was originally planned... and that in many ways it was Disney giving up on the big epic KOTS that allowed ENG to sneak into being. Too many of you put too much weight behind the whole "Disney's in charge" thing... and it's equally amazing to see how many folks expect Disney to just kill off Rebels once Episode VII hits. Rebels is SW's TV presence for the foreseeable future; they likely won't start up a post-ROTJ series until at LEAST Episode VIII is out, maybe not even until the trilogy is complete (or run the risk of the next film kinda not meshing with the support series, as happened with Dark Horse's comics, Del Rey's books, and the Tartakovsky Clone Wars during the prequels, in various ways). And even if they did start up a post-ROTJ show in the next few years, there's nothing to say they couldn't run it concurrently with Rebels. It'd likely strengthen the timeslot on Disney XD, having a full hour of new Star Wars every week. Marketing gold! A pink badass Mando girl doesn't mean "Disney marketing" either; it's ANY studio's marketing. Again, Ahsoka says hello. Filoni even said in interviews Sabine grew out of his ideas for Bo Katan, and he suggested a Mando girl to Weisman & Kinberg. If it were Disney, then Sabine would be a Mando princess... which technically may still be possible (Satine was a Duchess, perhaps there was also a Mando royal family, maybe exiled or thought lost in the conflicts that led to the pacifists taking power?), but I don't think it likely. Even then, Filoni & Co could've thought up such a story on their own, entirely independent of the Mouse. They might think it a clever ruse, with Sabine's name being only one letter off as a clue that she's also nobility... that the reveal of her royal status could be played into a "No, I am your father"/"another Skywalker" reveal down the line... that the PT & TCW had (former) Queen Amidala, the OT had Leia, so Rebels should have a royal, too... Tho I still fully expect Leia to show up in the series for an episode or two, eventually. Anyhoo, Disney can be very micromanage-y about a lot of stuff (projects I've worked on for them bear such scars), but I think it's fairly hands-off, mostly S&P stuff, letting LFL take point. If Disney really wanted to be controlling, it'd be produced here in LA. And in most interviews I've seen about Rebels, Disney is hardly mentioned aside from being the network it's on... It's all Lucasfilm, Lucasfilm, Lucasfilm and Kathleen Kennedy. A really interesting comment to read, thanks for sharing your thoughts. A real refreshment over the usual quibble that could be read here. You might be right when it comes to Rebels, perhaps they foresee a longer future for it, I'm just thinking that too much of the audience's focus will shift to an entirely different era after Ep. VII is out that they might want to surf on the wave of that attention after the movie release... Quote
Samiens Posted September 22, 2014 Posted September 22, 2014 (edited) No TCW cartoon face like the past sets... I wasn't too fond of how different the faces looked when next to regular Star Wars faces. That was my only reason why I did not collect any TCW sets sadly... Totally agree with this- as I got more into TCW I ended up spending considerably more replacing human clone wars heads with their regular counterparts (I've bought so many clone heads and Anakin heads its not even funny)! The alien faces (that I couldn't replace anyway) grated on me less fortunately and don't look *too* out of place- but the opportunity to get a regular minifig Ventress (whether styled after Tartakovsky's series or the later one) would be too good to pass up. Robianco Posted September 22, 2014 Posted September 22, 2014 Personally I think Disney handle their franchises pretty well. They know their audiences and they produce good material for them. With a 5yr old daughter I've watched a LOT of Disney over the last few years and the quality is undoubtable. With regards to Rebels it's a wait and see... Seeing as there hasn't been a single episode yet I'm not sure how people can really judge it. I'm also not going to get too fussed over how a single character either does or doesn't live up to his/her gender stereotype or whether they strictly adhere to their entirely fictitious and open-to-debate religious or social rules. It's a cartoon... for kids... with spaceships... and robots. Now if the story is a good one and, as a Star Wars fan, like the show... regardless of how much it fits in to a particular part of the SW universe... then my interest in the Lego sets would grow and there's a good chance I'll pick them up. Obviously with there being a chance of some serious OT crossover then happy days (hopefully). Of all of the CW stuff I thought Ahsoka was an excellent character... Anakin was nowhere near the petulant, moody, idiot that was badly portrayed by HC in the films so I warmed to him a little... unfortunately I've never liked the styling of the CW figures so I've never picked up the sets... so I hope Ventress (another excellent character) has regular Lego styling for the Azure Angel set. Clones also don't interest me... I must admit I'm so glad they don't do anything for me as the amount of different variations available in Lego form is dizzying. Quote
irispen Posted September 22, 2014 Posted September 22, 2014 Im beginning to like the tie advanced prototype, and im an OT collector.... hhmmmm Quote
Darth Punk Posted September 22, 2014 Posted September 22, 2014 Im beginning to like the tie advanced prototype, and im an OT collector.... hhmmmm I'm a fan of the tie prototype. It feels sufficiently in the realm of OT style ships. Plus I think the inquisitor is going to be a cool character along the lines of what darth vader was to OT. Whether or not it's a good build remains to be seen as I would like to see some final images before making any such determination. Quote

Sir_Basil_Ashton Posted September 22, 2014 Posted September 22, 2014 Disney has bigger fish to fry than micromanaging LFL about an animated series. Yeah right, you're talking about Disney that prematurely ended TCW, had they had bigger fish to fry, they wouldn't have ended a cartoon/animated series that was no where near the end. They are in complete control of their new animated series, Rebels. Disney is all about their brand name. If they weren't, they wouldn't worry about putting their name on anything Star Wars. In regards to Anakins Custom Jedi Starfighter, I'm interested to see if the minifigs will be in TCW style. I love TCW but I'm hoping for a non-TCW Ventress minifig. Quote
Venkefedo Posted September 22, 2014 Posted September 22, 2014 Disney ended TCW partly because it was with Cartoon Network, partly because they wanted to move focus away from the PT era. It's disappointing because they could have bought out any interest CN had in the show and started airing on DisneyXD, and started up Rebels (likely minus Filoni and his people) alongside Seasons 6-8 of TCW... they're Disney, they can afford it. But Rebels won't face those obstacles if/when Disney decides they want a between-OT-and-ST show; Rebels is already on DisneyXD, the OT era is recognized as their bread & butter thanks to nostalgia and stuff like stormies and Vader being readily available. Unless they pull boneheaded moves like they did with Motorcity & Tron (airing them late on Sundays when kids likely won't watch, not merchandizing them at all) there should be no reason to prematurely cancel Rebels Quote
Fuppylodders Posted September 22, 2014 Posted September 22, 2014 Seriously... Can all you guys quit with the talking about TCW series, Rebels, who is directing what, what characters are better, who is controlling rebels whether its Disney or not, what will be happening to rebels when the New Trilogy comes out, why TCW ended, who knows more about what is going on than who. PICTURES, RUMOURS AND DISCUSSION ABOUT 2015 SETS Talk about all that other crap elsewhere, it is seriously frustrating reading through all that just to find out none of it is relevant to this topic. Im not going to apologise for 'minimodding' because this has gone on for long enough with no moderation and it is tiring watching people slip in the little bit of off-topic info which explodes into this sort of stuff. And to be honest, a mod shouldn't have to waste his/her time having to sort through all this just because people can't do something simple and keep on topic, despite the fact I think a few pages back I've seen quite a few mod posts stating to stay on topic. It isn't the modding that is the issue, it is the people. Quote

Yes, because it's so much more added value reading posts like: "OMG this T-16 is AWSOME, I'll be getting 3 of these at least", "Tie Advanced is ", "I so hope that Ventress is movie version coz I can't abide by these CW faces!!! Euh, what do you mean there was no Ventress in the movie?!" et al. Get real guys, on or off-topic, Venkefedo's posts are the only thing worth reading on these last 4 pages. A bit of adult-like conversation on an AFOL forum. And as a side note, it is still quite tangential to what is discussed here, it's not like we are discussing Ken and Barbie. I don't like those posts either as they also add nothing. And just because his post might have been worth reading, why can it not be read in another topic? As you mention, adult like conversation and everything, I'd expect adults to understand where to post such things too. Discussing the scenery colours used in TCW is also tangential but nonetheless COMPLETELY off topic. Quote

Speculation about Lego Star Wars 2015 leads to speculation about the future, and of the future of Star Wars, which leads to debates, but it always circles back to Lego 2015. Discussions should not be one-way "this only, not that" type of conversations. Seriously, how interesting is "I don't like the TIE Prototype." "I do." "Okay". Really, this discussion is dead unless: 1) More leaked photos surface. 2) People voice opinions and spark debates related to the topic. Edited September 22, 2014 by LN-01354 Quote
Darth Punk Posted September 23, 2014 Posted September 23, 2014 Anyone heard about the likelihood of more Star Wars specifically rebel sets being revealed next week at nycc. I was curious if TLG was going to reveal more sets to coincide with the kickoff of the show. Quote

I really hope they do. Quote
Venkefedo Posted September 23, 2014 Posted September 23, 2014 While I'd rather the Anakin's Custom Fighter figures be "movie-style" as opposed to having TCW faces, I do kinda hope Ventress has black-rimmed/lashed white eyes. If she had her Dark Horse visage, instead, that'd be fine by me (always preferred her hatch-mark tats--even tho they're largely on the sides of her head, where TLG can't/doesn't print--to her tats from TCW). Having a Ventress that blends in better with movie figures wouldn't be terrible at all! My biggest hope is that her sabers hilts appear in Flat Silver for a change, or in dark pearl grey (but that may be like hoping Dooku's saber gets released without the chrome) Quote
Lind Whisperer Posted September 23, 2014 Posted September 23, 2014 (edited) ...I'd expect adults to understand where to post such things too. That's with the assumption that everyone on Eurobricks is an adult, which they aren't. There are quite a few TFOLs that openly admit their age, quite a few who are "in the closet" as it were, in regards to their being TFOLs, and there are several users who may or may not be KFOLs, to "varying" terms of obviousness. Either way, though, if you're a TFOL, and you want to join an adult forum, you should do your best to act with the same level of dignity as if you were an AFOL. Back on the subject, though, sometimes conversations will split off the main road. It wouldn't make sense to create a new topic for every single little strand, and so long as we keep going more or less in the main direction, and we can easily go back to the main discussion if we want to, there really isn't anything to be concerned about. Clone 01354 Productions Posted September 23, 2014 Posted September 23, 2014 I expect they will, since Rebels will be released around that time. Kids would be watching the show, and Oh! Lego is releasing sets! Now they have advertisements for their merchandise at just the right time...... Quote

montgocloud Posted September 23, 2014 Posted September 23, 2014 Where the winter sets revealed at the new york thing last year? When is it starting (date plz) and is there a chance the sets will be revealed there? New York Comic Con is from October 9-12 this year. I don't think any sets were revealed last year at NYCC, though I could be wrong. You might be confusing it with New York Toy Fair, which is around February. All that being said, if LEGO does make some sort of press release at NYCC, I'm going to go ahead and estimate a 0% chance that the reveal is the winter wave of Star Wars. Quote
