Dannylonglegs Posted June 6, 2015 Posted June 6, 2015 Out of curiosity, do the Kawashita actually speak Japanese? Does everyone else speak English or French? Or do we all speak "galactic common." Are there language barriers? ~Insectoid Aristocrat Quote

TheUtilityBelt Posted June 7, 2015 Posted June 7, 2015 (edited) A little background for my siggy: Dutch Vernon always wanted to explore space, so what better way to do it than become a scientist! (Actual exploring gets so dirty!) And so he enlisted into M.A.N.T.I.S. Dutch worked there for a little less than a month and was utterly mortified when he found larvae living in his meal at the cafeteria! When he quit, he felt he had no purpose in life, and was a nobody. He would get so drunk at the cantina that he didn't even realize how unclean the kitchen was there. Alas, he stumbled upon a luminescent, bright, clean(!), holo-poster, for the Octan Corporation! Signing up as a scientist at Octan was one of the best experiences of his life! The walls were bright white, the floor was so polished that Dutch could see his own face in it, and there were three different decontamination showers! Three! He was welcomed by Dr. Long and given a position and a lab. And so here he is! Edited June 7, 2015 by TheUtilityBelt Productions Quote

The Octan labs eagerly open their doors to Scientists with credentials as excellent as yours! And, unlike Mantis, we can afford to dispose of our weighing bins and pipette persons after use, as opposed to attempting to clean them out and reuse them, as I hear is common practice in their Corporation. Those trace amounts of chemicals and foreign contaminants do add up. Fill out these forms, and provide a 100x100 pixel image of yourself for your ID badge, and you're good to go! Let's get scientific! ~Dr. Long Edited June 7, 2015 by Dannylonglegs Quote
aeralure Posted June 7, 2015 Posted June 7, 2015 This is fantastic! I'd like to join, though my resources at the moment are really limited. I've been reading on and off for the past couple hours and I'd like to join, even though I'm joining a bit late and trying to get up and running. Some questions: 1. I noticed on the challenge currently running that actual bricks or LDD was accepted. I read elsewhere that your minifig should be in any and all scenes. I'm returning to Lego after years away and I'm slowly building up some things to actually build with but I have a long, long ways to go for anything of size or complexity. LDD seems a good interim solution (though I wish ultimately to build with physical bricks). I've just gotten up to speed with rendering on a Mac. What I don't know is how do you get your sigfig into LDD? Seems a requirement to play. The default minifigures in LDD don't cover anything I'm using. Should I hack it with a Photoshop green screen style insert, or is there a way to actually do it in LDD? 2. I was debating hard on the job to choose until I read that the bonus is 3 credits while the scoring is 10-70 credits. The bonus is of course helpful, but would it be right enough to say that any build - despite whatever your job is - would be ok too sometimes? Seems mathematically so. 3. I Bricklinked some things to get me started. Have to wait a few days to a week to get my sigfig I imagine. Should I sign up now and use a default sigfig picture or wait? Quote

Your.minifigure doesn't actually have to be present in the actual build when it doesn't make sense for it to be so, as would be the case in a Micro build, or if your figure is on the communication device heled by another fig, or commanding a robot to do its dirty work, etc... You could also build an LDD exclusive alaternate figure: in my case that would likely be an all-white body and legs, with a simple female face and a black ponytail (if available. I don't LDD) And use a more detailed figure in physical builds. 2. You don't need to build anything related to your job. You are incentivized to do so, but it is not a requirement. That said, 3 points each week can add up fast, so choose a job you like and which you will like making buulds for. So if you really like building space ships, choose pilot, but if you prefer building Alien environments and cool action stuff like that, go with explorer! If you prefer piracy and espionage, choose special forces. If you like structures, engineer; and if you want to put the science back in science fiction, go scientist! 3. Even small builds help you and your team! Sign up ASAP and get your first build out there! This third week ends late on Sunday (or early on monday. I never remember), so post your figure on a green or grey baseplate if needed! Also sign up for Octan because we're the best! ~Insectoid Aristocrat Quote

Ferdinando Posted June 7, 2015 Posted June 7, 2015 Also, as any scientist should know, larvae offer a proteic content superior to any Octan ABS steak. Especially if irradiated with Awesomnium. Quote
