MSc Shobaki Posted July 22, 2014 Posted July 22, 2014 Currently, I'm designing a new supercar featuring fwd. Due to limited space within the car, I have to stick to 2x M-motors instead of the initial plan to have L-motors. Will M-motors give enough power? Quote
Black-Build Posted July 22, 2014 Posted July 22, 2014 Depends on the weight and gear reducation of your model... Quote
MSc Shobaki Posted July 22, 2014 Author Posted July 22, 2014 I would assume a total weight of ca 2kgs and a part count of roughly 2500. Gear ratio of motor assembly: 1:0.6 Gear ratio of transmission: 1:1 and 5:1, (2 speed variable) Gear ratio of wheels: 7:5 This gives a minimum ratio of 1:0.086 (Low gear) and 1:0.428 (High gear). Chosen wheel size, 81.6 from 8448. What do you think? Quote
MSc Shobaki Posted July 22, 2014 Author Posted July 22, 2014 If that's the case I need to redesign the system layout starting with the gearbox Quote
Doc_Brown Posted July 22, 2014 Posted July 22, 2014 I would skip the m motors cos they are weak and 2 m motors didn't seem to work for me when on the same channel. If memory serves me, there is a bug where the V2 doesn't work well with 2 m's on the same channel. I switched to L motors with no problems. Quote
MSc Shobaki Posted July 22, 2014 Author Posted July 22, 2014 I have three IR-recievers available; 2x V1 and 1x V2. Could the V1 handle two M-motors? Just so that I know for future projects. It seems that you believe more in the L-motors rather than the M-motors, so I should probably re-design the transmission to make room for L-motors. Quote
D3K Posted July 22, 2014 Posted July 22, 2014 The L-motors are conciderably more powerful, and some find them easier to integrate into a Technic construction despite their marginally larger size. Quote
MSc Shobaki Posted July 22, 2014 Author Posted July 22, 2014 My problem as it is now is that the transmission output shaft collides with the bottom part of one of the L-motors. To solve that problem in order for the model to feature dual L-motors, I need to re-route the system Quote
legomuppet9 Posted July 22, 2014 Posted July 22, 2014 put the l motor on it's side? it's a 3x4 shape Quote
jantjeuh Posted July 22, 2014 Posted July 22, 2014 I agree with the others, don't bother with the M motors. It's worth redesigning your chassis to incorporate L motors. Quote
MSc Shobaki Posted July 22, 2014 Author Posted July 22, 2014 put the l motor on it's side? it's a 3x4 shape Hey!! That's a nice idea to look into! Will look into it tomorrow and tell you about the results Quote
imajor Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 I used two M motors when I motorized my 42009. Of course it wasn't fast, but it moved. Video: Quote
MSc Shobaki Posted July 23, 2014 Author Posted July 23, 2014 It turned out to be perfect just by replacing the M-motors with L-motors which are on their side! Will post images soon Quote
