Suggested by 8BrickMario, I though it would be a great topic to discuss the one that got away.

I'll start. I wanted the 6868 Hulk's Helicarrier Breakout, but waited until when it was close to the EOL so I could get it for a lower price. When I went to Target, I couldn't find it. After that, I checked on Lego's website, come to find out it was sold out. Looked at the aftermarket prices and they were sky high! Still regret to this day.

What story do you have?

Dangit. I hate this topic.

Last summer, I was at a garage sale and asked if they had any. They said, "Oh, we just sold all of them a little while ago." It was only 9am. If only I had gotten there sooner.

The person who bought the sets didn't take the instruction manuals. There were dozens of BIG sets from the late '80s through the mid '90s. All of the instructions were in mint condition. There was everything from classic space to forestmen and pirates. Lots of castle stuff too. There had to have been several thousand dollars worth of sets in that lot.

They sold all the paper stuff to me for $5. Everything was flawless. There were tons of posters, birthday kits, fan club letters, Brick Kicks magazines, and everything. EVERYTHING. Mint condition.

Two years ago on Black Friday at Target- I see The Black Pearl for $75. My wife had the cart in another part of the store. I go to get the cart but don't bring the set with me, when I get back of course it was gone. I still regret my laziness in not just carrying the box with me.

While I now have many missed garage story sales I also have as many or more wow! look what I got from a garage sale. My sob story is about a set. I rarely buy complete sets in store, so when I saw Monster Fighters Zombies set at Target, as I had spent my budget that month I thought, 'I'll get it in a few weeks!' :cry_sad: I never saw it again.

That set had a ridiculously short shelf life and its $40 price tag is $140 on bricklink. I still wish I had that bride and groom.

Again a garage sale, I saw a classic space set, one of the newer ones with the lights and sounds brick, and just as I got there a little kid pushed in front of me wanting to buy the set, then decide he didn't want it until the seller show him it had lights and sounds and bought it for 5€ :(

Good idea for a thread.

I don't know if it would count, but basically I wasn't into LEGO trains really. I did purchase the Hogwarts Express from 2010 when it came out, but didn't think much of it. Well, the following Christmas I was starting to really like the idea of another train and Emerald Night was still available. But since I tried acquiring all of the other sets that I missed out on from the dark ages that Christmas, I didn't get it. By the time I thought maybe I should definitely get this train, it wasn't available anymore and the price skyrocketed. Ultimately I haven't really noticed that I don't own it. But I thought it was a neat looking train. But the more I look at it, the more I'd want more from it, so I might have been disappointed.

(Keep in mind, I'm really good at talking myself (and my wife) out of things. Just ask her. She hates me for it  )

^The Zombies had a ridiculously short lifespan. I'm sure it just sold better than expected and they didn't/couldn't justify a second production run. But either way, I don't think I've ever seen a set sell out so fast. I think it existed for maybe 2 months. (Just checked Brickset, 3 months). Thankfully I did snag that one when it came out. I hate buying sets full price, but a few of those themes I bought everything when it first came out. I may have spent more, but I didn't miss anything. You never know.

I bought a second Hulk's breakout for another Hulk for my daughter since clearance price wasn't much more than what just Hulk goes for. I haven't opened it yet.

Back in 2005 the OLD Jabba's Palace was 50% off at the local toystore.

A colleague from a movieconvention asked me to buy ALL the boxes for him.

I did.

He refunded me....but I was thinking of keeping one for myself. I didn't because I wanted the 2 small sets as well (the one with the droids and Bib....and the one with Boba, Han carbonite, Gamorrean) and these two sets weren't available anymore.

1 month later I was in Birmingham for a convention and saw both sets for a ridiculously low price.......

Now, 9 years later....I am thinking about getting the new Jabba's palace set (which has -almost- everything the old sets had (except EV-9d9 and a power droid)

I remember once seeing 8129 AT-AT on sale for $70 USD, a good $40 USD off the retail price, and for some reason I don't remember I didn't get it. Gotta make sure to get the new one then.
