Lego Otaku Posted July 8, 2014 Posted July 8, 2014 Always wanted to do something to fit in the modular system and I thought of a hardware store. The building it's hosed in is an old building from end of 19th century and is primarily wood. At this time I am not sure if I'd stick with 16x32 or if I want to go 32x32 and leave an extra space "vacant and for rent" Currently I have most of the first floor done and the shelf will have more things added. It'd be loose pieces. A few more tools in the barrels since LDD doesn't allow "random" drop in trick like real life. There will be a few more colored "boxes" of various bits like nail and screws. Yes that is a very old cash register, it isn't used at all. Also a gumball machine out front. The second floor will be the sleeping area for the store owner, and it'll access to open roof with plants, chairs, and table for outdoor enjoyment. With the current 16x32 there won't be much room for bed, kitchen, bathroom, and place to eat or watch TV. ldd file: http://www.brickshel...dd/hardware.lxf Quote
Lego Otaku Posted July 10, 2014 Author Posted July 10, 2014 (edited) Some update. I decided to add a second store after all. An ice cream shop. I don't have any furniture done yet but it does have cooler and I have ceiling fans ready. The front of the ice cream shop is stolen from the green grocer set. I am still trying to get the front of the hardware done. ldd file http://www.brickshel...d/hardware2.lxf Edited July 10, 2014 by Lego Otaku Quote
Superkalle Posted July 10, 2014 Posted July 10, 2014 Good progress on that MOC ! I'm moving the topic over to our Town Forum where I think you'll get more feedback Quote
Lego Otaku Posted July 15, 2014 Author Posted July 15, 2014 (edited) Next part: http://www.brickshel...d/hardware3.lxf now over 2800 pieces Rough back story, the wooden building was built first likely sometime in 1870's. Then the brick building next to it but for reason only known to builders over 100 years ago, they choose to build the stair access to upper floors of the building through the wood building. Currently the first floor of the brick building is ice cream shop. It used to be a barber (plus doctor/dentist) shop. The upper parts are single apartment for up to 2 people. The wood building used to be a general store and became simply hardware store. Exterior is pretty much done. Might still tweak it a bit but general overall looks good to me. Second floor of the building. Still to do: kitchen fixture and dining room furniture. It'll be a combination dining and living area and I'd like to install a nice flat screen TV somewhere but that's later. There's fire escape door on the back. Upper floor with the bed and dresser plus bathroom. I went with the kooky separate hot/cold water faucets for the sink as they seems to be common in older building here in USA. It's rarely installed in new building because very few knows how to handle that. Hidden behind the bathroom shelf (towel and toiletries) is a ladder to the roof. I still need to work on the toilet, I don't like how the tank part came out. The roof. The skylight window is right above the bed. I'd like to add shutter that could be used by minifig to close it such as when they need to sleep through the day or if they are worried about helicoptor or spy satellite peering into their private life. The roof access panel is left open there. Back view. LDD doesn't handle small flexible item like the flower stems so I can't put the flower on the other 2 stems or put the second stem in. I noticed I used a few pieces in this MOC that hasn't been released in color officially. Such as 1x4x2 panels in trans-clear. I need idea for table and chairs, and for kitchen. Also bedroom seems a bit spare, maybe an idea or 3? PS as the building is old, some decades ago one of the former tenant who robbed a bank hid money bag somewhere and it remains undiscovered to this day. Edited July 15, 2014 by Lego Otaku Quote
Rail Co Posted July 15, 2014 Posted July 15, 2014 Looking Great! Can't wait to see it with actual bricks :D Quote
cgarison Posted July 15, 2014 Posted July 15, 2014 I agree. This is going to be very nice when completed in bricks. Quote
Lego Otaku Posted July 16, 2014 Author Posted July 16, 2014 I've spent most of the time fixing illegal bricks. It's amazing how despite being careful I managed to slip in a single 1x4 brick with no pins in a color that only exists in alternate version with pin. The pin-less version exists only for transparent color. A few other parts such as 3x3 tan plate never existed and had to be changed to something that exists. Probably over 100 bricks replaced. LDDManager was a big help in ferreting out nonexistent parts/color combination. Quote
Lego Otaku Posted July 17, 2014 Author Posted July 17, 2014 Dark red 1x4 sucks. 370 I need is going to be $200 alone not counting shipping. Most 3000-pieces set is about $300 from LEGO so I am overpaying for my own moc LEGO PAB online doesn't have any dark red 1x4, even though they do have dark red 1x2 and 1x6; and Bricklink is averaging over 50 cents each used, over 60 new. I'm guessing LEGO needs a lot of dark red 1x4 for something currently. Since it's not on LEGO online, it's a safe assumption local PAB won't have them either. Going to replace as many of the 1x4 I have in with 1x6. Quote
cgarison Posted July 19, 2014 Posted July 19, 2014 Up front, I am very sorry. I had to steal the ceiling fan idea for my latest MOC. It was too good of a design element to not include. Quote
Lego Otaku Posted July 20, 2014 Author Posted July 20, 2014 I'm flattered you liked my ceiling fan design. Quote
Lego Otaku Posted July 29, 2014 Author Posted July 29, 2014 First batch of order are in and I've picked through my spare part bins, I got more than half of total bricks I need. I still need to figure the furniture for the ice cream shops and for second floor room. I'll get most of the rest of pieces I need to finish this later as I am a tad short of money for the next 2 weeks. Dang emergency dentist bill. I'm glad I don't type as funny as I talk because of the pain killer Quote
