Paul Boratko Posted July 5, 2014 Author Posted July 5, 2014 (edited) Well, I see all of the 19L flexible axles are gone from Bricklink.. Just a few days ago there were 10 people selling them... It's interesting that you still use the 3L axle with stop instead of the new 2Lpin+axle part. Is there a reason for that? Maybe just easier assembly? I was originally using those pins, but in order to get everything together easier, the 3L axle with stop was the better choice... And someone just listed 4 new 19L axles for $8 usd each... Wow, that's one nice looking supercar! For some reason I like it is not a copy of any existing car. I'd wish you found how to workaround those 19L flex axles. These may be an option: http://www.bricklink.com/search.asp?itemID=74402&colorID=1 Edited July 5, 2014 by Paul Boratko Quote
Rishab N Posted July 5, 2014 Posted July 5, 2014 (edited) Great work! I think this is my one of my favorite Lego supercars second only to the Vampire GT. I really like the doors edit: I'd love to see it in black Edited July 5, 2014 by Rishab N Quote
Meatman Posted July 5, 2014 Posted July 5, 2014 Wow. Man, I really love how you got the headlamp shape. Great looking car from all angles, not too bulky and not overloaded with parts. The front reminds me of a Japanese car, but I am not sure which one. Looking forward to seeing it with the new wheels and also interested in the doors mechanism. Quote
zux Posted July 5, 2014 Posted July 5, 2014 Well, I see all of the 19L flexible axles are gone from Bricklink.. Just a few days ago there were 10 people selling them... As you may see I have posted a reply early after this topic appeared and have checked BL for flex axle availability, since then all cheaper (still not that cheap) used pieces are gone. Sligthly OT: While creations like yours are really cool and well designed (and I love them) I hate how they impact not-that-common part availability and pricing. I appreaciate your responsibility on using less of those rare pieces in this MOC, but I'd love to see the same from other builders too, especially those who provide building instructions. Otherwise it drastically impact AFOLs and sellers just make $$ from this situations like this. Quote
Meatman Posted July 5, 2014 Posted July 5, 2014 Paul, I still think this model would look pretty nice in red. That shouldn't be to bad depending on how many of those number three connectors are in it. Black is definitely out of the question. Quote

You just need to use your ingenuity, easy enough for us builders but more harder for people who don't moc. Quote
Meatman Posted July 5, 2014 Posted July 5, 2014 Wrong. You just need to use your ingenuity, easy enough for us builders but more harder for people who don't moc. True, but some of us regular builders want our models to look the way that they were intended. Lego also doesn't seem to make hard rigid flex tubing in white. Quote
Paul Boratko Posted July 5, 2014 Author Posted July 5, 2014 (edited) Here are 2 gif images of the door opening and closing... 2 naked chassis pics Sligthly OT: While creations like yours are really cool and well designed (and I love them) I hate how they impact not-that-common part availability and pricing. Yeah, I really wanted to try and work with nothing buy new and common parts, but I also didn't want to sacrifice the quality of the Car... I did the best that I could ... I didn't think people would buy up all of the 19L flexible axles over night... Paul, I still think this model would look pretty nice in red. With the new 42029 Pick Up truck having the new 3 x 11 panel in red, that is easily possible... I think this would look good in red.. I'll probably build a second model in that color.. piterx Posted July 5, 2014 Posted July 5, 2014 wow that's really an awesome model man! i love white cars :) Quote
Doc_Brown Posted July 6, 2014 Posted July 6, 2014 Fantastic model! I love that it is in white too. Quote
jorgeopesi Posted July 6, 2014 Posted July 6, 2014 Oh I love the doors I would buy instructions just for them . Quote

At this point it's almost inevitable that any even vaguely rare part on one of your models will be instantly bought out and then appear at much higher prices. Perhaps next time you should buy them all up in advance and then sell them on yourself at a more reasonable rate! Quote
Balrog Posted July 6, 2014 Posted July 6, 2014 Awesome. This is a must-build when/if instructions are available :D Quote
Meatman Posted July 6, 2014 Posted July 6, 2014 Thanks for the little videos, but I still have no idea how that works. Quote
dhc6twinotter Posted July 6, 2014 Posted July 6, 2014 Amazing car! The white color looks great, and I really like how the panels on the front corners fit around the headlights. The car looks almost like a 2015 Mustang, especially the front. Quote
Paul Boratko Posted July 6, 2014 Author Posted July 6, 2014 Thanks for the little videos, but I still have no idea how that works. I am going to get build pictures taken this week that will better display it from a mechanical viewpoint... Basically there is a perpendicular axle connector that moves up and down that has a steering link attached to it that opens the door outwards, it then begins to move forawrds because it is mounted to the same pivot point(same axle) as the perpendicular connector, but the perpendicular connector can move higher that the liftarm because it is mounted through it's axlehole and the liftarm is just mounted through a normal hole... I realize this probably made absolutely zero sense to anyone who read it... Quote

rm8 Posted July 7, 2014 Posted July 7, 2014 (edited) Nice cabrio, Paul;) Classic supercar from master of supercars! It reminds me Porsche Carrera GT. Was it your inspiration?:) Edited July 7, 2014 by rm8 Quote
Paul Boratko Posted July 8, 2014 Author Posted July 8, 2014 Nice cabrio, Paul;) Classic supercar from master of supercars! It reminds me Porsche Carrera GT. Was it your inspiration?:) To be honest, I wasn't inspired by any one car... I probably used dozens of cars for ideas, some worked and some didn't... The front end went through about 1/2 a dozen changes... Looking at it now, the body does somewhat resemble a Carrera GT.. Maybe I subconsciously built it thinking about that car and didn't realize it... My main goal was just getting the small panels to work together to form the headlight contours.. I just really wanted to make something different than anything that I had done before...This was the key piece that made those panels work together... Quote
Meatman Posted July 11, 2014 Posted July 11, 2014 I just seen your Facebook page was updated with a few new pictures of your car with new chrome wheels and I figured that I would check this thread to see if you posted new ones here too and I see that you did. WOW they look so good on that car! How do they get the titanium color like that on the chrome? I also like the color change on the seats. Quote

WOW they look so good on that car! How do they get the titanium color like that on the chrome? I also like the color change on the seats. I honestly have no idea how these ones were tinted... I know some of the other ones that I had done had a little bit of paint mixed in with clearcoat and then that was applied over the chrome as a protectant and it gave the color to the chrome... These do not appear to be done the same way... Gabor Revai from Hungary sent me these new wheels... Quote
jovel Posted July 12, 2014 Posted July 12, 2014 I love the overall shape of this model, but I think you placed the seats too much to the outside ( nine studs between them ). I think because of that the view for the driver is a little blocked by the style from the front window. For the rest this model is pretty much perfect ( as usual )! Quote

I think because of that the view for the driver is a little blocked by the style from the front window. For the rest this model is pretty much perfect ( as usual )! I too realized the 9 studs when I was building this, but I couldn't seem to figure out how to design the chassis and keep it structurally strong while maintaining the normal 7 studs between the seats that I normally have in a 1:10 scale like this... Yesterday I was determined to alter the chassis to make this possible... And the end result is much better and cleaner looking than it originally was... I achieved the 7 studs between the seats and actually made the chassis a bit stronger using a few less parts than I had before... I also moved the steering wheel over a stud so that it is once again centered with the driver's seat... As you said, it looks much better... Amazingly ironic that while I was redesigning the model yesterday that I had seen your comment... Edited July 13, 2014 by Paul Boratko Quote
