Bob De Quatre Posted July 4, 2014 Posted July 4, 2014 Welcome to reality, Lego's are now massive shit in terms of quality. Even if we respect your opinion about Lego bricks's quality, I'm sure you can find a more appropriate language and some examples to make your post more constructive. Quote
Lordofdragonss Posted July 4, 2014 Posted July 4, 2014 (edited) Me and many of my friends also have broblems with 1x? pieces cracking.Itall started in 2009. The biggest problem though are minifigs- My friend got Jabbas ship and Leia torso was cracked INSIDE the box. Some of my chima figs have break lines on the back of their legs- even if all they did was lying inside the box! Edited July 4, 2014 by Lordofdragonss Quote
VintageLegoEra Posted July 4, 2014 Posted July 4, 2014 What I habe noticed is Chima sets are suffering from these cracks. Right? I just went through my NIB and new built sets Nd everything is fine.. Or maybe by mistake while in Lego factory, it was mixed with defected pieces? After all we are human and mistakes happens! Quote
tkatt Posted July 4, 2014 Posted July 4, 2014 I wonder if this has something to do with the environment you guys are in, perhaps humidity or lack thereof is causing this. Any extreme temperature shifts? My new sets are from 2011 to present, and I haven't experienced a single broken or cracked piece anywhere. Like I said, the only broken pieces I have are from 30 years ago. This could be a possibility. This past winter we had almost 50 days of below 0ºF, with temps reaching -40ºF more than once. It's possible that the Toys'R'us store I bought these sets from left them on a truck overnight. If they brought them straight to the shelves from the extreme cold that would be an over 100º temp change. Although it doesn't exactly explain why only some parts cracked. I still think Lego's overall quality is very good. These are the only bad parts I've ever had after thousands of bricks over 30 years. The only other pieces I've had damaged have been due to a dog, a vacuum, and my teeth. Oh and the time I thought I would make the 2x4 plate I needed out of a 2x8 plate. Quote
fred67 Posted July 7, 2014 Posted July 7, 2014 I feel the similar to naf on this; I've had micro-modular castle sections topped off with cheese slopes, assembled, for several years... hundreds of cheese slopes, not a single crack. Something else must be at play... obviously a bad batch of plastic, perhaps, but I've NEVER had broken pieces out of the box, and right now my collection stands upwards of 200+k parts. I've been missing bricks from sets (on occasion, rarely), and I've encountered some bionicles with broken joints (that I bought at a garage sale). I've broken pieces (accidents involved knocking things over on hard floors), but I've never had a piece just "break," just like that, and never broken out of the box. Quote
Bugbot2008 Posted July 8, 2014 Posted July 8, 2014 Just about every single cheese slope I have had has developed a tiny hairline crack at the 'toe'. Even on sets that I only assembled once. Quote
Faefrost Posted July 8, 2014 Posted July 8, 2014 I think we can all agree that something in the geometry of cheese slopes can cause cracking under certain conditions. Probably related to the uneven forces applied to the small plastic piece. The problem is even with the occasional cracking the cheese slope is just too good of a piece to be retired or given up on. We have seen similar issues in the past (headlight bricks). I think it is pretty clear that at least with the Cheese Slopes it is not so much a plastic issue as it is something subtle in the core of the parts design, probably related to temperature changes, which will take years to work through. But those cases are way different than what is being shown in those Chima sets. There is something strange going on there. Quote
Mowikan Posted July 10, 2014 Posted July 10, 2014 I have the same problem! and my bricks are always in home at 20 degrees Celsius and no chemicals. For what i see its always the 1x1 seize pieces. Quote
Aanchir Posted July 10, 2014 Posted July 10, 2014 Cracks in cheese slopes are a well-known and relatively widespread issue, but the sheer number of your bricks that have cracked seems extraordinary. Everyone else who has recent sets with these sorts of parts should probably check them. If it does turn out to be a widespread issue in recent sets, the LEGO Group needs to know. Quote
VintageLegoEra Posted July 10, 2014 Posted July 10, 2014 Can you check the year on the box when the set wqs made? This can be a clue. Quote
