Hmm, that means I may not be able to use my old epicly long technic cable, at least for the 2nd motor.

It should be fine, you'll just need PF extension cables at either end to convert between connection types.

Fair enough. I'll give it a go anyway. Hopefully the extra PF cables will be arriving in the next couple of days.

I've quite enjoyed upgrading the HE, it may be a lot more complex than the normal City trains, but because it's pretty much all brick built rather than specialty pieces means it's actually easier to customise without losing the intended look of the set. When it's finished, (or at least at a level where I'm happy to leave it for now), I'll try and do some instructions for the changes for others to muck about with.

That would be awesome! I still need to get the HE set, and i intend to modify it aswell. (either dual motor in one loco, or powering both locs)

I just started modifying mine to run off of 24VDC track. It zips along so quickly that anything over 4/7 on the speed makes it derail on turns. I'd like to make it 7 wide, but that would require a complete rebuild because of the use of train bases.

Only 2 passenger cars in the video, but I have 6 total + 2 locomotives when I normally run.

Turns out the Technic cables worked fine, however, top n tail power units don't really work well with the (fully) articulated coaches. It's fine on straits or curves, but when it gets wobbly, things get derailed. Trainweights may be the solution, or possibly breaking down and just powering both bogies on the one powercar. I want to do some more experimenting before I settle on anything though.
