def Posted June 20, 2014 Posted June 20, 2014 Did you have that ability for Day Three as well? Nope. That was part of my "Now I'm just a vanilla" thing. I wanted scum to start freaking out that I could expose votes every day. Sometimes, town needs to lie
Bob Posted June 20, 2014 Posted June 20, 2014 Nope. That was part of my "Now I'm just a vanilla" thing. I wanted scum to start freaking out that I could expose votes every day. Sometimes, town needs to lie It wouldn't have mattered anyway. I'd have been lynched regardless, I also just wanted to shorten the day so Peanuts wouldn't be questioned as much. You succeeded in freaking me out. I was sure that you could reveal the vote every day. You hid the role pretty well too, you were one of the most vocal in finding an alternate solution to the hidden vote aspect when you had a way to reveal it twice. I was also nervous that you'd be able to use the Judge role twice, but then I figured that Tammo wouldn't make you that OP.
def Posted June 20, 2014 Posted June 20, 2014 If there's anything that makes my game work, and it seemed to have this time, it's not caring. My first games, I cared way too much, and my main successes came when I said "who cares" and had fun. Though Badboy still did annoy me a fair bit. Revenge voting is kinda lame.
Lady K Posted June 20, 2014 Posted June 20, 2014 Nah, don't worry about it. I've got an extremely thick skin, and I'm used to the harshness of these games. I was a little nervous about the new players. I tried to warn them in one of my lessons about the behavior of some people. I actually used a pretty scummy tactic (no pun intended) by asking some of more former students from the last game how they felt in this new one. Did you have that ability for Day Three as well? We weren't taking any chances, because I was sure you did. I told Peanuts to vote for me. I honestly didn't expect a role like that, but the only other secret ballot game I've played in was Baritones 2, and I was killed off before the game progressed to it. Maybe there were other secret ballot games on here. I don't remember. Most of these games are a blur to me now. Looking back we were so close to lynching Adventurer1! I don't think the game would have progressed any differently though. Adventurer1, if I can give you a quick lesson (even though you've graduated), when you're the town vigilante and someone as so clearly Pro-Town as def has come out on top, go to him and claim and work with him. Also, don't take the roleplaying too seriously. We almost lost the town vigilante because you suggested that the town shouldn't work together! I was convinced for a few hours you were a third party. I'm not sure why, I just did. Then I realized I fell into the oldest trick in the book. Actually that first contact of 'Hi how are you' type followed by so what do you think , is what set you up as scum to me. It just felt so scummy. And after explaining my major mess up with words about not working together to you and then having you use that against me plus the post coinciding with Speedy's post set you both up as scum to me. I was determined to take one or both of you out. Trumpetking actually saved the kill on Speedy by contacting me. Somewhere in the conversation I realized he was the wrong target and attempted the second kill towards you. Thanks to Speedy for a good job leading and helping out town so much. Thanks to both of you for the advice, I learn for next time.
Mencot Posted June 20, 2014 Posted June 20, 2014 Great game, thanks for hosting Tammo. And also thanks to everybody else for playing and make this an very intressting game, special thanks to the lucky sherlock Def/Speedy for making it a short one.
Tamamono Posted June 20, 2014 Author Posted June 20, 2014 I should have come up with my ferrari defense before I was all ike "I'm not scum , you are!" The scum had a little sliver of hope before you came up with your scummy defenses. Even with the "I'm not scum, you are" defense, you only originally made a majority by one person. If you had made a real defense, claimed to be framed/claimed def was faking a result/etc., those who were wary of def (jamesn, adventurer, etc.) would have likely at least voted for someone else - if not def himself. As it was, jamesn was voting for def before you claimed third party. Don't pull a CallMePie - Mafia's a two-party game; nobody likes an independent. That goes for Bob too. The both of you were fingered early, but there were plenty of opportunities for you to escape the axe, particularly when Adam's kill looked like a scum kill, which would have normally cleared Bob if he hadn't blatantly lied about his role several times. Always stick to your guns and an at least fairly-believable lie - you never know what miracles will come your way, and if you give up, they won't be able to help you! @Tammo, were you disappointed I used my ability on day one and two? What were you hoping for with the role? I was a bit disappointed on day two, since I thought Peanuts might be able to live a day or two longer, but I thought your choice of action on day one was hilarious. You gave the scum a collective aneurysm and picked out the least scummy of their ranks for the day one lynch... and then overturned to a townie. When I saw how hard Bob was buddying you on day one, I secretly hoped that you'd totally blindside him in an overturn on day three or so, but this worked out too, I suppose.
TrumpetKing Posted June 20, 2014 Posted June 20, 2014 Bob, I did for like 3 seconds after you claimed and then you basically started talking in tongues, so def and I talked and dismissed it.
fhomess Posted June 20, 2014 Posted June 20, 2014 With Bob, I think it hurt him that he kept changing his approach. Townies don't lie about things in their defenses, so there's rarely a need to change the story. The truth will come out and, particularly early on, the numbers are still on their side. With Dave, the problem was that he gave up on his defense and then came up with one. I did that in Yakuza when I was found out. You have to be ready with your defense initially. Remember that people like Def are lying scumbags when playing town. If an investigation result fingers you when you're really a townie, you know something got messed up. Take the same approach when playing as scum and you might find out that the result didn't really get you. At the very least, in majority voting, you might be able to avoid a lynch for a day.
jluck Posted June 20, 2014 Posted June 20, 2014 I'm picking up on good future tips just by reading the suggestions here, appreciate all the help!
def Posted June 20, 2014 Posted June 20, 2014 Hopefully, if I play with some of you new players again, you won't vote for me so much!
fhomess Posted June 21, 2014 Posted June 21, 2014 Hopefully, if I play with some of you new players again, you won't vote for me so much! Which means you'll be scum.
