Sigolf Brimabane Posted June 16, 2014 Posted June 16, 2014 This is a humble Roman Villa that I worked on in LDD for a while... I never finished it but I am quite satisfied with it, so I'd like to share it with you. I would love to build it in real bricks, but I don't think that will be possible anytime soon. When I stopped building the piece count was over 10,000. And if I ever built it in bricks I'd want to make an interior and have figures. Without further ado, here it is: Pattern on the ground in the garden: Closeup on the wall (inspired by Age of Empires: The Rise of Rome): Quote
Scaevola Posted June 16, 2014 Posted June 16, 2014 Great work Sigolf! I think it merits more than a "humble" description! The main house is great as are the walls. Excellent work on the tiling in the courtyard too Quote
Calanon Posted June 16, 2014 Posted June 16, 2014 This is very impressive! I would do something about the section of wall between the two windowed sections, it's a bit textureless right now. Quote
Strelki Posted June 17, 2014 Posted June 17, 2014 Pattern on the ground in the garden: It reminds me of ancient slavic carpet designs, almost identical. Quote
Sigolf Brimabane Posted June 18, 2014 Author Posted June 18, 2014 It reminds me of ancient slavic carpet designs, almost identical. Aye, it was a common mosaic pattern in Greece and Rome. An ancient symbol that exists in almost all cultures. Vikings and Anglo-Saxons wore it on brooches and carved it on combs. :) The pattern was really difficult to produce in lego x) Especially in the corners where it turns. Thanks for commenting :) This is very impressive! I would do something about the section of wall between the two windowed sections, it's a bit textureless right now. Yeah, that's a good point. I hope I can get some white bricks and maybe try building a smaller house. Quote
Macsen Wledig Posted June 19, 2014 Posted June 19, 2014 I really like your design and it would be great to see it in real Lego, though I'm at a current piece count of over 10,000 I guess it could knock a pretty big dent in your finances! Perhaps you could build a smaller version (1 storey or something) , or perhaps just a portion of it... Cheers MW Quote
Adolfo Posted July 7, 2014 Posted July 7, 2014 Nice and dedicated work on LDD. We need a lot of patience sometimes to do that, specially the mosaics on the floor. I hope you build it for a real soon. Quote
tedbeard Posted July 7, 2014 Posted July 7, 2014 Wow that is colossal. Although to be fair it is more of a palace than a villa. Quote
