Well, apparently, Google sent out trucks with fish-eyed cameras and now you can go around New York sitting in your chair!

Intsructions: Zoom in on New York, click on the little yellow man, drag him on a blue street, a screen will show, there is New York! You can go down the streets, up the streets, turn left, turn right. Rotate camera. It's nifty!

Get your look of New York Today! Be sure you zoom out and view other cities in the United States!

WARNING: It may not work for some contries. I don't know why.

Nice feature, now all they have to do is create moving images, cars passing by, pedestrians... :-)

I believe something like this is also available for Amsterdam, have to look that up some time.

Thanks for posting.

-Edit: No, no such thing for Amsterdam yet, I guess I have to cycle around myself and see it in real life :-( :-D -

I saw this a while ago when it was posted on Digg. It's quite an impressive feature.

The reason it's not available in other places yet is that they do it by driving a VW Beetle with a camera ontop around all the streets. It's gonna take them months to do the majority of the US, nevermind the rest of the world. Here's a little picture of the car: http://www.engadget.com/2007/05/31/check-o...t-scanning-car/
