AmazingPharaoh Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 (edited) These boxes look different from the familiar English versions. Please take a look. Typo? It says "ninja" instead of "ninjago" Edited June 10, 2014 by AmazingPharaoh Quote
just2good Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 (edited) Those are knockoffs. There's been a flood of 'em recently. Edited June 10, 2014 by just2good Quote
Lego Spy Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 Hmm, weird. Reminds me of this thing I heard of once. Oh what was it called? Lego? I don't know. Quote
BlueberryWaffles Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 They made a knockoff Ultra Sonic Raider? Seems like a big set for bootleggers. Quote
AmazingPharaoh Posted June 10, 2014 Author Posted June 10, 2014 I think it's maybe because it's the chinese version (see chinese letters in corner) Quote
AmazingPharaoh Posted June 10, 2014 Author Posted June 10, 2014 Because of language barrier and probably chinese traditional views, "ninjago" got translated into "ninja" in the chinese box instead of english box. Here's a comparrison: English box Chinese box Would it be possible to change the name of this topic from "Suspicious boxes" to "Differences of Boxes" because that would be more appropraiate Quote
imvanya Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 BELA is indeed a Chinese knock-off brand. Here's what this great article says about BELA: "BELA – Brand of a currently unknown manufacturer, possibly also selling under the name Jilebao. They are probably hiding for a reason. Produces blatant copies of Ninjago, Bionicle and Hero Factory, Technic and (recently) Chima sets. Have also been copying the Cars sets under the “Let’s Go!” theme. Seem to be goading legal action". So it's just laziness and plagiarism, not some cultural thing. Quote
WhiteFang Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 Moving this to the Community Forum as the above images are clearly from clone brands. Quote
The Joker1 Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 Hmm, The lego final battle says it has 102 pcs, Yet the NINJA one has 105, Where do the other 3 come from... Quote
samurai-turtle Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 Hmm, The lego final battle says it has 102 pcs, Yet the NINJA one has 105, Where do the other 3 come from... The spare parts? Quote
Clone OPatra Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 I'd also always take both the picture and information on knock-off boxes with a grain of salt. They usually contain a little blurb somewhere that says 'actual contents may not match box' in some iteration or another. These aren't reputable products like real clone brands. Love them or hate them, but the likes of Mega, Kreo, etc. follow laws and want to be real toys. Straight LEGO knock-offs are a different story. Quote
badbob001 Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 For the fakes, did they pose cover shot exactly the same or did they simply photoshop copy the original? For the Fire Mech, the background is slightly shifted but the model itself looks exactly the same and in the exact same pose. The lighting is exactly the same, which is pretty hard to duplicate I think. Does anyone know if LEGO uses actual physical models for the boxes or are they advanced computer renders? It would be interesting to see if the actual model has the same look and quality of what is on the box. Quote

Faefrost Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 Hmm, The lego final battle says it has 102 pcs, Yet the NINJA one has 105, Where do the other 3 come from... Clone and bootleg figures don't come partially assembled. So the arms and hands etc will be separate. Things like that. Plus the people making these rip offs are not exactly known for their ability to count or their tendency to follow truth in advertising laws. Because of language barrier and probably chinese traditional views, "ninjago" got translated into "ninja" in the chinese box instead of english box. Here's a comparrison: Would it be possible to change the name of this topic from "Suspicious boxes" to "Differences of Boxes" because that would be more appropraiate Those aren't "different" they aren't even "suspicious" they are 100% criminally counterfeit. Bela is a Chinese counterfeiter. They have no connection to Lego beyond stealing their designs and art from them. Quote
Phrea Posted June 19, 2014 Posted June 19, 2014 (edited) You can see a review (not mine, just posting). The mech is surprisingly ok. That's a great review, but the dude is barely understandable, he talks so fast and swallows words quite badly. EDIT: I'd just like to add that I can hear he has a very slight speech impediment, but that's not a/the problem at all though. He'd be perfectly understandable, except that he also talks really fast and swallows half of the words he speaks. Edited June 19, 2014 by Phrea Quote
