Please defend your position and sway me ,

I curently feel that lego, Though Awesome, has droped the ball, and others have filled holes on what I want .

so I fill my holes (wants)

things like

the top 20 most expenise legos minfigurs I would like to have but cant afford or find them

i got decoys of about 10 of them and spent under 20 bucks,

http://mentalfloss.c...ego-minifigures

like

2. 2012 San Diego Comic-Con Superheroes

i got in a set all 4 for 8 dollars and look about the same,

4. 2012 San Diego Comic-Con Bilbo Baggins: ~$150 - $200

i got in a lord of the rings fakkie set for 7 bucks heck if i know its the same

6. and 7. 2011 San Diego Comic-Con Green Lantern and Batman: ~$225 - $250 each

i got a set with these clones that looks damm good for like 8 bucks

10. and 11. 2013 San Diego Comic-Con Green Arrow and Superman: ~$300 - $350 each

man theset i got had these clones and they look just like the pics and i spent 7 bucks for the set

18. and 19. 2012 Toy Fair Iron Man and Captain America: ~$950 - $1125 combined

i got a set of 8 with clones of these and look the same for 10 bucks set

so i found preety easy about 1/2 of these in clones and saved a large amount of money,,

now i know they aren collectables,

but me and my son like playing with them,

and i love my green lantern

green arrow, and

the 50 ironman i bought for less than 50 bucks, to make my hall of armor,,

How much would that have cost me

to get 50 lego iron man

and or

unless i bought customs legos ironman at 30 a pop,

i just dont see the reason to be a purist anymore,

before YES ... even just 2 years ago i felt a reason to be purist as there was nothing to even come close,

but now, Man theres some good stuff out there, and the purist poistion feels like im missing out

That is great for you, if that is what you want. People have different reasons for collecting, some like it because some of the objects are actually rare and hard to find, others just want to have tons of figures. I am not really a collector, but I have some old figs that I would never ever let go, because they are rare, and therefor interesting to me. What you are saying is kind of like saying "why would anybody want a genuine Rembrandt, I just got 10 replicas for 20 bucks".

I'll be honest- I don't care about super-heros or any of these fancy mini-figures... honestly I don't really care about mini-figures at all short of some of my favorites from the 80's/early 90's.. I have never bought a Lego set for the mini-figures it has and doubt I ever will. (Although I would buy Star Trek if available.)

That said I proudly display lego-compatible builds right next to my authentic Lego sets. Just this weekend I did an Apache gunship - it's a nice big size (54 cm / 22") and quality looks as good as anything Lego would put out, but of course Lego would never put a weapon of war out. Plus it probably cost half what a similarly sized Lego set would have cost.

However, I do keep my "extra" non-Lego pieces apart from my Lego ones. I have no qualms about mixing them in a build but for storage purposes best to keep them apart because it would be a big pain to try and separate later.

Seriously, it doesn't make buying fake minifigs a reasonable action.

If you want to buy them, then buy them. You won't have those very limited Lego minifigs, you will just have some bootlegs. You can say to yourself that they are cheap and "hey they are actually quite good" but at the end of the they, they are not Lego.

If I was interested in rare minifigs, I'd have just tried to get original or say "oh well, I am not meant to get them"

i get the feeling of what your saying, but

leogs are mass produced for the most part and not one of a kind,

you display a rembrandt,

i play with leogs and decoys the play is the same with either verison, except the reall cheap bom bom,

just not swayed by that so much,, but thank you..

yeah I agree its not a great reason to buy them, just i want them ,,, and i would like the rares but its not in the money or really ever in my mind going to be ok to spend that much on rares when i could get a big set like death star for about the same,, as for fun the deathstar would win hands down,,, over 1 or 2 mini figs

thanks for the thoughts

If you play with them, it's entirely different than if you're a "collector." I don't normally "play" with LEGO (except trains and I "play" by setting up my Christmas display, for example). I wouldn't want bootlegs. If I just wanted those figures to play with... well, you wouldn't even want to play with figures "worth" hundreds of thousands, and bootlegs make perfect sense.

Just that, if you ever wanted to sell them, then they are not LEGO and not really worth anything to a LEGO collector. So I wouldn't condemn you for buying them - not at all.

Ok the Rembrandt was a bad example :) and as I said people buy lego for different reasons. I would not consider myself a collector, but I don't really play with my figures. And I have absolutely no problem with non-purist people, I often customize minifigs myself. But I would never buy these figs, and for the most part I keep my customs strictly separated from my 'purist' stuff. You can say the customizing is a separate hobby for me.

cool,

respect al that,

i suck at customs as i have no paitence for detail work, so for us, its a good option, to get some diffrent stuff to play with

No! Being a purist is stupid. It can also make you biased. That's a bad thing.

I hate it when people say "Lego is better that Mega Bloks in every way" and other similar phrases when in reality, they really arent. Mega is actually better than Lego in some cases, such as articulated minifgs and free replacement parts. Emphasis on the free replacement parts. Last I checked, you had to order and pay for replacement parts from Lego.

I've never went through with ordering replaceable parts but I think they're free.

Anyway I think that being purist is only relevant if you plan to show off your builds. Anyone could create a really well done build if they were allowed to modify parts, by remaining purist there is a higher amount of skill involved. Personally I attempt to stay purist but I do order items that LEGO doesn't cover (such as BrickArms).

Their replacement service is Pick-a-brick. I've tried going through it before, but then I found out you had to pay.

They may have changed it, but I do know that they don't have the parts I need.

Unless something has changed recently (I haven't been missing any parts lately), they will replace the parts they can for free.

Click on the "missing parts" link on the bottom of the S@H page.

Fred67 is correct. Requesting missing parts is done in the Bricks and Pieces section of Lego's Customer Service website. (Requested missing parts are free.) Pick A Brick is an entirely different service meant exclusively for ordering individual parts not related to other purchases.

Yeah. I put in a request for replacements already. Nice to see they have a broken parts option. Good on you, LEGO.

I still say being a purist is a bad thing.

Funny this topic got bumped- I recently bought two sets from WANGE. They were available on Amazon.com. A 2 foot+ tall Eiffel Tower and Big Ben. I finished the Eiffel Tower and am 90% through Big Ben, both have been awesome. Brick quality very good for both. Big Ben isn't quite as fun as the Eiffel Tower as it is a lot of building the same steps over and over again, but for about $50 US each the price was great for their size.

I bought a MB set recently... only the second time I bought non-LEGO, but it was a Call of Duty set with Zombies.... ZOMBIES!!!! And it was half price clearance at Target - the same Target that NEVER does clearance on LEGO.

I think it more depends on whether you build/play or collect. Personally, as a builder and someone who plays with their LEGO, customs are so much better, because I can slap 'em on my mocs and they look almost like the real thing! It's a much cheaper solution, and you'll have tons of money left over for more parts than if you'd spent it on a purist figure.

Agreed! At this point you'd have to be an idiot to even OPEN one of those comic-con exclusives, and if you did surely only to display in some protected environment!

If you actually want to MOC or play with one, it only makes sense to use a cheap version.

The Comic Con exclusive figures are in resealable plastic covers as far as I know... there's no seal to break so you can take the figure out and display it. As long as you keep the packaging safe you can pop it back in when you feel like it.

The Comic Con figures are actually the thing that stand out as far as bootlegs (which are difference from clone brands for me). If I have a Lego budget... or at least not be silly with money... I prefer to get some Lego sets and put my money back into Lego... so buying a bootleg SDCC figure such as Green Arrow for £1 (which is actually pretty impressive even compared to a real one) means I have £200 or so I can give to Lego rather than a scalper while still having a 95% replica of the figure to display.

The NYTF figures are roughly £800 the pair... or you can get bootlegs that look almost identical for £2.50 the pair... and are very good quality, especially the Bucky Barnes Cap A.

These are more the things that make sense to me... yes it would be nice to have the actual Lego thing... but to get it Lego isn't benefitting... a scalper is. And let's face it... the only people selling are scalpers.. the collectors are keeping them.

As far as actual sets... be they vehicle or diorama... I'd say it still makes sense to get Lego as my experience is that clone and bootleg brands aren't at the quality of Lego yet... so the brick as well as the build is inferior. So that's where I'm more than happy to ensure that Lego gets my £s rather than anyone else.
