Some background:

I buy multiple of the same technic set. I usually build one and use the others for parts.

I buy lots of little system sets. I usually build these and leave them built or tear one down and try to make C and D models from the same pieces.

I'm noticing though, i'm missing out on a lot of pieces in my main building set unless I use all the crazy pieces from the system sets.

I'm curious how you guys manage these conflicts of interest:

1.) Building with a diverse piece set

2.) Having built models around to look at and get inspiration

3.) Keeping sets organized for the purpose of designing more alternate models for a set

It seems like if I really want my moc to be the best, then I'd need to tear down all my models and get access to ALL the interesting pieces.

Do you guys rely on LDD to add details to your mocs without needing to salvage other models? Then just order the parts when you're ready to take pictures?

Specific pieces of interest are:

* Sloped pieces

* Tile pieces

* Antenna and antenna holders

* Strange technic pieces that are only found in 1 or 2's

Such as 10197 and 44809. I only have a couple of these so my MOCs never utilize them but I'm sure they would be useful.

Can a mod please change the topic to: "How to combine more system in technic mocs?"

I'm afraid i'll mislead some people who wanted to see something juicy. If you have something juicy, please feel free to share it here.

Thanks for the great example. This is a masterpiece. Coincidentally, last night i was looking at large piece count sets at the lego store and I came across the boat from the LEGO Movie. It seems to have just about every kind of weird piece one could ever want! The only problem is that I was on my motorcycle and couldn't carry the huge box home. Also a very pretty 2x5 got away from me when the store guy was talking my ear off. :( She was feeling mini-fig bags looking for bart simpson. I fell in love immediately obviously.
