TheOneVeyronian Posted May 27, 2014 Posted May 27, 2014 (edited) Hello! I'm back with an MOC which I have been working on for about 5 months (around dissertations and exams of course), and just today I managed to finish it. What I wanted to do for this MOC was to create a typical modern-ish semi-detached house, perhaps typically what you would see in Britain, but I wanted to properly scale it and create a spacious and fully equipped house. It is modular with respect to that it's floors, garden and garage are all removable to let you look in at the interior. It might be very big, using an estimated 4,500 pieces, but this is intended to be minifigure scale. Now, before I show some pictures, I should say that the windows might appear small, but that's really due to the limitations of LEGO I suppose as I wanted segmented windows on the house. There is also a large gap between the upper floor and the roof, this is due to a rather bizarre geometry error which made the roof plates just slightly bigger than the area of the upper floor, and is unfortunately very difficult to fix. It should fit, but annoyingly it doesn't because the roof plate is half a millimetre larger Oh, and as you might know, I don't actually own any Town minifigs, so the guided tour of the house will this time be brought to you by my avatar and his family. They're not your normal City citizens I guess, but they're citizens of my own town There's quite a few pictures here, so if you'd prefer to just browse the Flickr album (which also contains additional shots of rooms through windows and things like that), then here you go. Now onto the pictures (apologies on the photography of the whole shots, this dwarfed my usual makeshift setup, but they should show what I want them to show). Ignore the yellow you can see in the roof - I ran out of brown then my budget for this MOC ran out : Front: LEGO Modern British semi detached house - Whole house shot 1 by TheOneVeyronian, on Flickr 3/4 view: LEGO Modern British semi detached house - Whole house shot 2 by TheOneVeyronian, on Flickr Top view: LEGO Modern British semi detached house - Whole house shot 3 by TheOneVeyronian, on Flickr Side view: LEGO Modern British semi detached house - Whole house shot 4 by TheOneVeyronian, on Flickr Back view: LEGO Modern British semi detached house - Whole house shot 5 by TheOneVeyronian, on Flickr Ground Floor plan: LEGO Modern British semi detached house - Ground Floor plan view by TheOneVeyronian, on Flickr Upper Floor plan: LEGO Modern British semi detached house - Upper Floor plan view by TheOneVeyronian, on Flickr Now for some more specific close-ups of the rooms: Living Room: LEGO Modern British semi detached house - Living Room 1 by TheOneVeyronian, on Flickr Of course, the number one sitcom on LEGO TV, Where Are My Pants? has to be shown on the flat screen TV's Kitchen: LEGO Modern British semi detached house - Kitchen 1 by TheOneVeyronian, on Flickr The kitchen contains everything a kitchen needs, including cupboards, sink, washing machine, tumble dryer and oven. No dishwasher though - I'm guessing whoever lives here spent all their money on the two flat screen TV's in the living room LEGO Modern British semi detached house - Kitchen 2 by TheOneVeyronian, on Flickr Dining table seats 8 minifigures - so either a large family or ideal for those who like big dinner parties. Spare Bedroom: LEGO Modern British semi detached house - Spare Bedroom 1 by TheOneVeyronian, on Flickr A spare bedroom. Looks like the owner chose to make it a pet's bedroom. Conservatory: LEGO Modern British semi detached house - Conservatory by TheOneVeyronian, on Flickr LEGO Modern British semi detached house - Ground floor toilet by TheOneVeyronian, on Flickr The conservatory also houses the ground floor toilet. Thankfully the walls are opaque here. Staircase: LEGO Modern British semi detached house - Staircase 1 by TheOneVeyronian, on Flickr Going down... LEGO Modern British semi detached house - Staircase 2 by TheOneVeyronian, on Flickr And going up again! The bedrooms: LEGO Modern British semi detached house - Girl's Bedroom 1 by TheOneVeyronian, on Flickr Girl's room. I don't know who bought her the One Direction CD... LEGO Modern British semi detached house - Girl's Bedroom 2 by TheOneVeyronian, on Flickr Another shot of the girl's room. LEGO Modern British semi detached house - Boy's Bedroom 1 by TheOneVeyronian, on Flickr Boy's room. I think the boys might have much better taste in music than the girl... They also like LEGO, one of them is playing with a Tower of Orthanc. LEGO Modern British semi detached house - Boy's Bedroom 2 by TheOneVeyronian, on Flickr Another shot of the boy's room. Note they have two bunk beds. LEGO Modern British semi detached house - Master Bedroom 1 by TheOneVeyronian, on Flickr Master bedroom. They also have a fine taste in music LEGO Modern British semi detached house - Master Bedroom 2 by TheOneVeyronian, on Flickr Another shot of the master bedroom. Maybe all their money went on that UCS Falcon they have on display... Bathroom: LEGO Modern British semi detached house - Bathroom 1 by TheOneVeyronian, on Flickr LEGO Modern British semi detached house - Bathroom 2 by TheOneVeyronian, on Flickr I should point out that the Fabuland ladle used as the shower head is custom painted. Outside: LEGO Modern British semi detached house - Balcony conservatory and garden by TheOneVeyronian, on Flickr The master bedroom also has a balcony that overlooks the garden. Garage: LEGO Modern British semi detached house - Garage by TheOneVeyronian, on Flickr The garage contains a subtle clue as to the hidden wealth of the owner I guess! UPDATE: 28th May I just thought of taking a picture of some of the custom CD decals which are used in the house but are unfortunately mostly not visible from the front. LEGO Tiles with Custom CD Decals by TheOneVeyronian, on Flickr They should be obvious what albums they all are, but if not, feel free to ask. The One Direction CD decal is omitted - I don't think I need to show that one again! I may as well just post the rest of the pictures here as well for convenience, for those who would prefer not to view the Flickr album: Shots through various windows: LEGO Modern British semi detached house - Boy's Bedroom from window by TheOneVeyronian, on Flickr LEGO Modern British semi detached house - Girl's Bedroom from window by TheOneVeyronian, on Flickr LEGO Modern British semi detached house - Kitchen from window by TheOneVeyronian, on Flickr LEGO Modern British semi detached house - Living room from window by TheOneVeyronian, on Flickr LEGO Modern British semi detached house - Front door by TheOneVeyronian, on Flickr Various garden bits: LEGO Modern British semi detached house - Patio by TheOneVeyronian, on Flickr LEGO Modern British semi detached house - Slide by TheOneVeyronian, on Flickr LEGO Modern British semi detached house - Swimming pool by TheOneVeyronian, on Flickr Miscellaneous: LEGO Modern British semi detached house - Spare Bedroom 2 by TheOneVeyronian, on Flickr LEGO Modern British semi detached house - Hallway leading to garage by TheOneVeyronian, on Flickr LEGO Modern British semi detached house - Upper Floor hallway by TheOneVeyronian, on Flickr Well, that's all for now. I really hope you liked looking at this MOC. It took a long time to design and build, but overall I'm very pleased with how it turned out (ignoring the little roof gremlins I mentioned). Thankyou for looking! Edited May 28, 2014 by TheOneVeyronian Quote
Macsen Wledig Posted May 27, 2014 Posted May 27, 2014 Blimey that's a lot bigger than my modern-ish British semi-detached house! ...I must be doing something wrong That said, there're no One Direction albums anywhere on the propery, so it's got that going for it Great job, btw! (...and good luck with the exams and dissertation) Quote
lightningtiger Posted May 27, 2014 Posted May 27, 2014 AWESOME huge house.....packed with detailing and WTF ? 1D CD ? ......... Brick On 'TOV' ! Quote
rriggs Posted May 27, 2014 Posted May 27, 2014 Great interior and some really neat features. Outside has ended up a bit plain because I think the windows are a bit small...? Cheers Rog Quote

(...and good luck with the exams and dissertation) It is admittedly on the larger scale. It definitely isn't modelled on my house either, my house is too small. Neither does it have One Direction CD's AWESOME huge house.....packed with detailing and WTF ? 1D CD ? ......... Brick On 'TOV' ! Thanks very much Great interior and some really neat features. Outside has ended up a bit plain because I think the windows are a bit small...? Cheers Rog Of course, I think the windows are a tad small too, but I needed a specific segmented window style. A 5x8 window would have been ideal but unfortunately they don't exist yet I did also consider building it out of the masonry bricks to break up the exterior a bit, but went against it in the end. I don't even want to think about how much I spent on BL just to get it to the stage you currently see the house in But I think with this build I was going for interior detailing and function more than exterior detailing Thanks for all the nice comments guys Quote
TheOneVeyronian Posted May 28, 2014 Author Posted May 28, 2014 First post updated with additional images. If there's a particular angle or shot that you'd like to see that isn't in the original post, then just ask me and I'd be more than happy to take some more photos and put them here. It's a big MOC, so even with the number of pictures I have, I may not have illustrated everything! Quote
TheBear Posted May 29, 2014 Posted May 29, 2014 Nice build. I actually have gaps in my real roof similar to that which is annoying when it rains! I can see you have spent more time on the interior and there are a lot of great details. A couple of small things you could do to make the exterior better would be guttering and window sills. Quote

I did actually think long and hard about adding some guttering as it would definitely go some way to hiding the unintentional gaps in the roof, I think I will buy some parts for the guttering as soon as I'm done buying Summer 2014 sets, such a thing should be reasonably straightforward to install. Windowsills would be trickier as that would involve dismantling the vast majority of the house, which was surprisingly fiddly to put together in the first place . Actually, while I'm thinking about it, it is entirely possible for a second house to be built in the mirror image of this MOC to create a sort of semi-detached terrace, very similar to what you'd see in the UK. The side of the house that isn't photographed is the side that would be touching another house, so it's just brick on that side. I'd love to build a second to show that, but considering that this one house alone cost about £600 in parts to make, that won't be happening in real bricks anytime soon Maybe I can show that in LDD though if I can find the time Quote
