Hi all.

I am a huge viking fan, and I am thrilled that Brickwarriors has released a few viking things. I want to equip my vikings with those accessories, especially the shield. But I think the shield is kinda boring, with only green, red or black. So, I want to paint them to become nicer. What kind of paint, and brushes and stuff do you recommend? I am new to customizing, so I don't know a lot about it. If anyone could help me with it, please.

I recommend Games Workshop Citadel Paint for Warhammer tabletop games. If you want to spend less money, Revell enamel paint works, too.

Try to get these brushes where the tip stays one thin point when try are wet.

Most of it is learning by doing. The Most useful technique is covering unwanted areas with tape before painting.

These viking shields offer a big area to paint patterns or sigils on. I had some good results with fingernail airbrush templates. See the Elvnoi Dozor in my signature. Or you could use decals from Warhammer decal shields or any other.

I use Citadel too, it gives a really good result. Making tiny little details free hand is extremely hard with a brush, so as Wardancer says, stencils are a great idea. you can even make them yourself, either with some tape or a plastic sticker and a scalpel. It too can be tricky though :classic:

I'd also give decals a go. Printing a water slide decal then sealing it with a clear acrylic spray to fix in position can give great results too... Especially if your painting skills are a little rusty.

Thanks all of you. My local toy shop has some Revell paint, my laptop has paint and my printer paper. So, with a bit of paint and a nice pattern, I should be able to make some nice shields, when my order arrives. That, unfortunately, takes about 3-4 weeks :cry_sad: , but that gives me a nice change to practice a bit. Thanks again, you have been great help.

I think I can post pics of my progress here, so you can help me? Or is there a special thread for?

Another question, sorry. Is the paint easily removable? So if I ruin it, the shield is not wasted?

Citadel paint is easier to remove, it is water dilutable. But I think you Need to coat it afterwards to make it durable.

Revell paint can to some extend be wiped off as long as it is still very fresh. When completely dried on a flat surface, it can be scraped off, but not very well. There is some chance that a piece becomes ruined, especially when it has small openings, corners, trenches, where paint might stay in. Another chance is to paint it over.

Try cheaper parts first.

PS: I am not a mod, but I would be interested in seeing your shields in this thread. I am currently customizing some BW shields as well, so I am looking for inspiration

Thanks. I am currently waiting to order some shields and other viking stuff (my dad promised me some BW things for my birthday, so I am impatiently waiting). I am making some designs in Paint. But I guess you can go to google and type "viking shield". Great for inspiration. But I can post some paint designs here, no problem.

For now this is the only one I have, I am kinda busy with my internship. Expect a lot more designs this weekend.

Such symmetric lines could be achieved well if you use tape to demarcate the painted area. Make one line, let it dry, make the next.
