zeki Posted May 25, 2014 Posted May 25, 2014 As cities grow bigger, it seems to me they lose their realism due to very small choice when it comes to road baseplets. We have then only 2 options, modifing basepates or brick building road, which does take a ton of time and money. I've started working on a project to create custom road baseplates and would like to see if anyone else is interested in such product. I've designed a small Survey if anyone seems interested. Thanks and best regards. https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/7R5GK8Q Quote
emilstorm Posted May 25, 2014 Posted May 25, 2014 (edited) I very much welcome the idea. I have some issues with the available road base plates, mainly that the roads are too narrow, the pretty much only work with 4 wide vehicles, particularly when it comes to corners. But you would probably have to go to 48x48 base plates to fix the problem i have, and then a cityscape would become huge, so i don't know if it is something you are considering for your project. Edit: I have done the survey and made some suggestions Edited May 25, 2014 by emilstorm Quote
TheLegGodt Posted May 25, 2014 Posted May 25, 2014 I 'tile' build roades 10 studs wide. I make them one-way roads. I don't aim for realism but for what is aesthetically pleasing. I see roads as a backdrop for viewing lego built vehicles. Road base plates just don't do it for me and are not stud-conomical. Quote
zeki Posted May 27, 2014 Author Posted May 27, 2014 (edited) I've created some basic design what the road segments could look like. No colors so far only geometry. The size of the element is 1024mm x 1024mm or 4x4 standard baseplates. Multilane Crossroad. And a bus station measuring 64x64 studs. In the center of two roads there is meant to be grass island for lamp posts. Edited May 27, 2014 by zeki Quote
lightningtiger Posted May 27, 2014 Posted May 27, 2014 I like it......actually I forgot to say in the survey......country roads, yeah roads in the country are different to those in the city. Quote
zeki Posted May 27, 2014 Author Posted May 27, 2014 Another detail ask for in survey... parking lot size 48x48 studs. Enjoy Quote
