Starwars4J Posted May 26, 2007 Posted May 26, 2007 Since being home, I've reworked the Imperial Assault Droid I posted awhile ago, beefing up the gun and getting rid of the grabber arm. I still wanted it to be able to manipulate things, so for practicality (I mean how practical is a grabber arm in an advanced society?) I added a micro tractor-beam array around the laser, and mounted one on each arm. The rest stayed largely the same Here's the Imperial Light Assault Droid (ILAD) Fv with its creator Action pose! Three rebels approach...could they really have found the Imperial Mastermind behind a majority of the new weapons the Empire has been bringing to bear against the rebels? Uh oh... 8-| The "battle" is quickly ended, and all three rebels are severely injured A pair of Imperial shock troops enter to make sure the rebels are incapacitated before trying to take them in Overall I'm pretty happy with how this turned out, it's much better than the original version, thanks to your comments, and those of the members of CS. Comments and criticism are welcome! Quote
zero1312 Posted May 26, 2007 Posted May 26, 2007 A very nice machine, but I have to agree to Asuka that your first version was better due to the simplicity! ;-) Quote
iamded Posted May 26, 2007 Posted May 26, 2007 Wow, nice job! Although I think this should be a heavier version of the other one, rather than a replacement of it. If I had the pieces I would soo build this. The design is great, and the arsenal, well, lets just say I wouldn't want to be a rebel!. X-D *y* Quote
Starwars4J Posted May 27, 2007 Author Posted May 27, 2007 Hm, well thanks for the support everyone ;-) I actually like this better because well...it looks more menacing. The original version had a pretty poor "claw" with horrible reach, and a very boring gun. I think I'll leave it like it is now, but if anyone wants to borrow the original design feel free (as long as you don't claim it's yours :-P) I'm still trying to come up with a new back for my redesigned fighter... iamded Posted May 29, 2007 Posted May 29, 2007 Nice touch with the robot arm on the rebel. I only noticed that now. :-P Quote
Corvus Posted May 30, 2007 Posted May 30, 2007 (edited) Very nice, the weapon arms are beautiful, but he looks a bit topheavy. Try modifying the legs to be bit more armored. I took the liberty of trying my own version, albeit darker, and with an odd looking arm. I'm experimenting camera angles, and new cameras. You'll notice that the mech is a bit fuzzy, any tips on how to fix that? Edited May 30, 2007 by Mr. Mandalorian Quote

You'll notice that the mech is a bit fuzzy, any tips on how to fix that? Well, as you may be able to see in the first few pictures, he can actually stand on a table fine, not needing studs to support himself. He's actually fairly well balanced as long as you know how to place the arms. The only thing I'm considering would be to take out the 1x1 cylinder from each arm to shorten them a bit. I really like your droid, it looks very experimental-y. I also like the idea of that 1x1 round plate to add a bit of height to it. With mine I wanted it to be a very cold, heartless, imperialistic killing machine, one that could be produced in mass. Your color scheme really works though, I might have to make one like that just for the "experimental" stage :-P As for the camera, if it's fuzzy, likely it moved a bit. Tell me what kind of camera you have (via PM) and I'll try to help you out there. Although I tend not to put too much time into photographing my pictures, I'm actually a bit of an amateur photographer (so I really should do better), but at least I know what I'm talking about! Just drop me a line, and thanks for your comments Quote

Vader Posted July 10, 2007 Posted July 10, 2007 Nice...Very very nice, i love all the different pieces that you've used SW4J. For me the legs are truly fantastic, i love the flexability and wide range of movement it seems to have. Cant wait to see more versions mate. :-) Quote
