rogul Posted May 21, 2014 Posted May 21, 2014 Hi all! First post here, getting back into my 12V lego train after dusting them off after 25 years. Has anyone converted the 10219 to run on 12V track. I saw this custom selling on ebay which looked pretty nice if only a nice parts list was avail :) anyway a big hi and look forward to reading the board and reminscing with 12V crew! Quote
antp Posted May 21, 2014 Posted May 21, 2014 Has anyone converted the 10219 to run on 12V track. Yes: I simply replaced the front bogie of the engine by the 12v motor unit. I had to remove the front buffer as the plow was touching the tracks. And the train wasn't passing the switch point, as their curve is too tight (that could possibly be fixed by replacing/modifying the rear bogie of the engine). Quote
rogul Posted May 21, 2014 Author Posted May 21, 2014 Your cat is driving me up the wall! :) i didnt realise it would be so simply to mod then i might give it a go.. just need to find a cheap one somewhere... DOH! Quote
LEGO Train 12 Volts Posted May 21, 2014 Posted May 21, 2014 I've done the same MOD with the BNSF Quote
zephyr1934 Posted May 24, 2014 Posted May 24, 2014 The simplicity of the conversion makes total sense. The 9v system was designed to be backward compatible with 4.5v/12v and the PF was designed to be mostly backward compatible with 9v (with the exclusion of metal rails). So the motors take up similar profiles while PF requires more space inside. Meanwhile here's an example going the other way. Quote
rogul Posted May 27, 2014 Author Posted May 27, 2014 my train came in today.. built it and gave it a run, no real dramas so far.. god damn it dwarfs the old 12V trains for size! Quote
Doom2099 Posted May 31, 2014 Posted May 31, 2014 That's a nice and clean looking 12v motor! It's fun mixing up the different drive systems on many decades of trains we've got to choose from. Quote
