Turaga of Force Posted May 18, 2007 Posted May 18, 2007 Has anyone seen Greystone castle? It is the best castle on BrickShelf! http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=211881 Quote
Sir Dillon Posted May 18, 2007 Posted May 18, 2007 Yeah, I've seen it before. I probably would call it the best castle ever, but it certainly is impressive. :-) Quote
UniqueBuilder Posted May 18, 2007 Posted May 18, 2007 Omg. X-O That's just so darn awesome. I might get into Castle.. :-P Respect ON.. 8- Quote
Norro Posted May 18, 2007 Posted May 18, 2007 A nice one! A little plain of walls, but that gives it a gorgeous simplicity! God Bless, Nathan Quote
Asuka Posted May 18, 2007 Posted May 18, 2007 A very impressive castle indeed, with lots of details. *y* Very fine, with a good landscaping too, but, maybe, just a little blocky.... 8-| Quote
Eurobricks Emperor Bonaparte Posted May 19, 2007 Eurobricks Emperor Posted May 19, 2007 Maybe not the best, but certainly one of the better. The scenery and buildings outside the castle make this MOC so good. And I like the gallery about the siege. Quote
blueandwhite Posted May 19, 2007 Posted May 19, 2007 Best? I don't know about that. It certainly is in the top 20-25, but there are alot of other wonderful castles on brickshelf to be found if you look hard enough. How about El Katar? Or what about Castle Drachenschlaf? And how can anybody forget Jojo's Falckenstein, one of the earliest and greatest brickshelf Castles. which in turn inspired this fine castle. There is also Anthony's Ulmaris And this awesome LEGO version of Disney's Cinderella Castle Not all great castles are huge. Hippotam's Operation Lethal Duck is a great example that good things do come in small packages. JLA's Stoneguard is another fine examle of good small castle. And all of this is only scratching the surface. Truth is, there are far too many wonderful castles for somebody to definitively claim that one is better than the rest. Quote
Turaga of Force Posted May 22, 2007 Author Posted May 22, 2007 Those are all awesome, but none come close to touching the glory of Greystone... Falconkeep is very impressive, as well as all of the others, though :D Quote
blueandwhite Posted May 23, 2007 Posted May 23, 2007 Those are all awesome, but none come close to touching the glory of Greystone... Falconkeep is very impressive, as well as all of the others, though :D That's your opinion of course. Personally, I still feel that there are too many fantastic MOCs out there to make such a sweeping statement. I certainly don't see anything that makes Greystone stand head and shoulders above all other Castle MOCs myself. Perhaps you could clarify why you feel this way. Cheers. Quote
Turaga of Force Posted June 6, 2007 Author Posted June 6, 2007 Ya its my opponion but I like it because it is big allowing room for details and making it more realistic, and has a nice look from far away, and had lots of little details i.e. the houses and citadel inside the castle and the ladders going up to the towers that come to the inside... It is definately my favorite Quote
Starwars4J Posted June 6, 2007 Posted June 6, 2007 I'm trying to find a certain castle blueandwhite, maybe you can help. I was actually looking for it for this thread but I can't seem to remember the name or the creator. It was huge, taking up many, many baseplates. It had an entire underground section with a black crypt. On top of that they had a cliff that was filled with flowers. It was one of the most impressive, at least in terms of size! Quote
iamded Posted June 6, 2007 Posted June 6, 2007 I tend to avoid commenting on these things, as I spend ages looking at all the pics, and then saying all the stuff I like about it in a comment, time which I should be using for my homework. But from the looks of the thumbnails in the brickshelf folder, it's very fancy! And those other ones are pretty amazing too. *sweet* Quote

Starwars4J Posted June 6, 2007 Posted June 6, 2007 This one, perhaps?http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=141827 That's the one! Thanks so much, Dillon! That castle, in my opinion, beats Greystone out in both size and detail. What I wouldn't give to be able to make a castle that size... Quote
Turaga of Force Posted July 19, 2007 Author Posted July 19, 2007 Remember to save these castles everyone, since BS is shutting down! Quote
El Bucanero Posted July 21, 2007 Posted July 21, 2007 Castle Greystone is a very nice castle! The little houses around and in it make it so special. Perhaps some of the outside and walls are a bit plain, but the inside is veery detailed. But some of the castles in Miniland are quite the same so this is a very impressive and beautiful castle. Lt. Col. Thok Posted July 25, 2007 Posted July 25, 2007 My gosh. All these wonderful castles...they're works of art. Quote
Grand Moff Viceroy Posted July 25, 2007 Posted July 25, 2007 I have seen that on brickshelf a while ago Quote
gylman Posted July 25, 2007 Posted July 25, 2007 I have always found the giant castles to be just too much for my simple brain to encompass, and I think a lot of the cleverness and attention to detail of the builder is lost in the enormous construction. Medium sized castles I think are a better expenditure of time/effort, and this is why things like El-Katar, Lethal Duck, and Stoneguard have been the kind of constructions I have admired most, defined as "gee, I wish I had the skill/talent to do that". But which is best.....? holy cow, how can you say. Maybe we need a poll? NOT! Quote
Grand Moff Viceroy Posted July 25, 2007 Posted July 25, 2007 turbolasers could easily lay seige and destroy that place, and a bombing run would trashh it. Quote
Norro Posted July 25, 2007 Posted July 25, 2007 turbolasers could easily lay seige and destroy that place, and a bombing run would trashh it. Interesting... Although castles and other medieval structures proved to be some of the toughest obstacles for the modern armies of WW2 to overcome ;-) God Bless, Nathan Quote
Norrington Posted July 25, 2007 Posted July 25, 2007 turbolasers could easily lay seige and destroy that place, and a bombing run would trashh it. Hardly. Even if they did, these would be impervious to that... uncouth method of attack. Walls, magic, and an army of the audio-animtronic Pirates and Ghosts! Take that, you fleshie-loving Star Wars nut! :-D Quote
