[WIP] Purist Firefly Minifigures

I'm attempting to recreate the crew of Serenity in LEGO form, using only official LEGO parts and no decals. At the moment, I've only got a limited amount of parts at my disposal, so these are made from what I had lying around. I've only made a few characters, and there's a few I'm not happy with at all at the moment.

A group shot of the crew so far: River, Jayne, Mal, Wash, Simon and Inara.

Malcolm Reynolds

I think the hair could be improved, but it works well enough as Mal's scruffy hair. The shirt and trousers works well for one of his outfits, even if it isn't his main one.

Wash

I think the smiling face, hair and the Hawaiian shirt make a good representation. I should get a baby T-Rex for him to hold.

Jayne

He often wears random T-shirts, sometimes with ripped-off arms, so I picked a torso which had a random image on it. I also made a LEGO version of Vera, and the angry face suits him, too.

Simon

The black waistcoat, smug face and somewhat posh-looking hair. Also has a medical bag. I think this works fine for Simon.

River

Now onto some placeholders. I think this outfit is something that River would wear, but I'm not happy with the face or hair at all.

Inara

At the moment, Inara is just the fortune teller minifigure with hair that I'm not happy with - I definitely need to get better female minifigure hair.

Kaylee, Zoe and Book I haven't started on yet.

Any comments and suggestions for improvements would be appreciated.

I'm only just familiar with the show, but I'm familiar enough to recognize Malcolm Reynolds is pretty spot on, you did a great job with him at least. Is the angry guy Adam Baldwin's character? Its a good face for him. I've maybe seen 2 episodes of this show.

After looking through loads of parts in the Build a Minifigure station, this seemed like the best option for Kaylee:

I need to pick up Gail the Construction Worker as her face would suit Kaylee well.

I've also discovered that the LEGO Friends hair work on standard Minifigures, so I'll be copying ReZourceman's Misty Knight for Zoe's head and hair (there doesn't seem to be many other options.

HUGE fan of the show and you're doing great with these figures. Mal, Jayne, and Wash are particularly spot-on. Nice job!

She's pretty. Especially when she's covered in engine grease.

Book

I'd like to find a more suitable torso that is slightly more buttoned up.

Saffron

Her and lipstick are a dangerous combination.

These are just plain AWESOME!!!! I love Firefly and these are perfect!

These are all pretty great, but... I don't feel like River's captured very well. I seem to remember her wearing browns and grays, not necessarily the Asian-inspired printing you have on her right now. Inara with the new hairpiece is more recognizable than at the beginning, but still needs a little work.

That said, when I looked at your picture I immediately recognized Mal, Wash, Jayne, and Simon, and the later pictures of Kaylee, Book, and Saffron are excellent too.
