supernaut Posted March 29, 2014 Posted March 29, 2014 (edited) (Edited to add a better photo) 'woofmcmoose' started a thread for his 4563 based MOC a bit ago, I thought about posting this in his thread but figured it didn't really fit considering his goal was to use the PF function motor where I kept the 9V. When I came out of my dark ages, the first thing I had to acquire was the train from my childhood- the 4563 Load & Haul. As with many of you, once I got it, I started seeing room for improvement. My personal goal with this was to 1. Make a BR Class 08 style shunter using 2. as many of the original parts as possible and 3. parts that were readily available on Lego Pick a Brick. I'm very happy with the results. I drew a lot of inspiration from 'pinioncorp's small red shunter and other similar MOCs found on the internet. Despite not being accurate (not that anything else on my train is- 0-4-0 as opposed to 0-6-0) I am happy how the 2924 train front fits- which is good since I have no idea what else I would use it for! I apologize for the crummy photo, I need to start a flickr account! Next up, I plan on powering my Maersk Locomotive and waiting patiently for the 60052 to come out later this summer! KringlesBricks Posted March 29, 2014 Posted March 29, 2014 Sweet! ...thats the same set that got me into trains and city. I still have it at my parents house...soon to have in my hands next week when I pick up the rest of my Legos. I like the Modding you did to the original Locomotive. Do you plan to use or MOC the remaining cars in the set?? Quote

Do you plan to use or MOC the remaining cars in the set?? Thanks! You'll have a great time when you get yours also. At the very least I'm going to use the original box car and possibly try to obtain more. I'm not quite sure what I'm going to do with the others. Quote
zephyr1934 Posted March 29, 2014 Posted March 29, 2014 Looking good! One small suggestion- try to work an exhaust on the top of the hood, which shouldn't be hard to do. Quote
pinioncorp Posted March 30, 2014 Posted March 30, 2014 Nice! Is it heavy enough? How does it manage with a load? With the exception of the smooth roof, this could pass off as a 90's set. Quote

Done and done, thanks for the suggestion! I put a couple dark grey radiator grills where the square tile is/was on the hood. Nice! Is it heavy enough? How does it manage with a load? With the exception of the smooth roof, this could pass off as a 90's set. It performs just as well as it did in it's stock form- it's slightly heavier with the built up hood. I appreciate the praise, as mentioned your MOC inspired me- originally I planned on building something similar from the ground up, but figured I should make the most out of something I already had. BricksMcgee Posted April 2, 2014 Posted April 2, 2014 I missed out on one of these on eBay the other week. Seeing this has made me want to try harder to win the next auction I see for it! Quote
Hrw-Amen Posted April 3, 2014 Posted April 3, 2014 Great, there are never enough little diesels around, they tend to get pushed aside by the huge ones or people who hanker after the more historic steam, a bit like they are the dark side of railways. However I think some of them including your one, are quite interesting characters. Quote
Zed_43 Posted April 5, 2014 Posted April 5, 2014 This is a good remake of the 4563 engine! I like your vision of this engine. You give it a really powerfull look! I have the 4563 set dispatched and I should think recycling it like you did! Quote
