Bricktimus Posted March 24, 2014 Posted March 24, 2014 I love them, I get the Star Wars one every year, (courtesy of my lovely wife). Having said this, if a DC or Marvel calendar was brought out I would be all over them! Quote
KringlesBricks Posted March 24, 2014 Posted March 24, 2014 I got into advent calendars when I was real young - toddler days - the german chocolate calendars my grandma/mom would get me each year for Christmas. In reference to the Lego Holiday Advent Calendars, I'm not too interested in them. Yea, the mini-builds are clever and "neat"; but, I'd rather spend my money on a particular set, or a bigger set with more useful pieces I can use in my layout/city. If I was little. I'd get a thrill each morning putting a small set together. I'd take the Legos more than chocolate, ha-ha! Quote
Dorayaki Posted April 2, 2014 Author Posted April 2, 2014 I used to love the CITY calendars, but I lost interest a few years ago. Ironically, the main reason was that they just got too "holiday-ish" for me. The calendars were a great source for little things to populate your town with. It was almost like getting a really big supplemental parts pack for CITY fans. Now I feel there is a stronger emphasis on the holiday season, which I really don't need for my layout. Plus I get enough holiday fill with all of the polybags and Winter Village sets. The other reason I've kind of backed off on these is the price increase, especially the Star Wars ones. I believe I paid $20 or so for the first CITY one in 2005. It depends, I personally prefer to see more holiday-ish elements since it is a seasonal product. As result it’s more like a supplemental pack for Winter Village series rather than City series. I pretty agree that the price makes it much far from a normal supplement pack, despite its beautiful box designs. I might wish to see some decoration parts that can be used for the City buildings (police/fire station) in order to create a City in Xmas. But Advent Calendars are mostly designed to play solely rather than being part of the Lego City. Quote
