JM1971 Posted March 1, 2014 Posted March 1, 2014 LDraw work on my pc but there are problems with ldview which can be sorted by turning off uac, its a pain to do this because you have to reboot a lot. An easier way might be to download ubuntu and have a dual boot pc, the ubuntu disk takes care of the hard work for you but will ldraw run on ubuntu ok? Quote

Try right clicking on the executable for LDraw and selecting "Run as Administrator". Let me know if that works. Quote
JM1971 Posted March 1, 2014 Author Posted March 1, 2014 (edited) Yeah is does but you have to keep clicking the popup loads of times when using Lpub. (when lpub keeps calling ldview when making instructions) Theres a method of bypassing UAC with task scheduler which works a treat, I'll link it because its handy.. http://lifehacker.co...tions-493128966 OOPS I posted this in the wrong forum. legolijntje Posted March 1, 2014 Posted March 1, 2014 I think it would be a lot easier if you could fix the UAC problem instead of isntalling a second OS (unless you want the second OS of course) But, I don't have any problems with LPub and LDview (Windows 8.1). Can't you change the security settings? Quote
JM1971 Posted March 1, 2014 Author Posted March 1, 2014 I fixed it with the task scheduler, its just that lpub takes ages to do anything otherwise. Quote
AndyC Posted March 1, 2014 Posted March 1, 2014 An easier fix for UAC issues is just to install in a non-protected folder. Anywhere outside of Program Files should do. Quote
legolijntje Posted March 1, 2014 Posted March 1, 2014 LPub with LDview is very slow on Windows 7. Nobody really knows why (as far as I know). There was a quite long topic about it on the LDraw forums (may be interesting to read), but I can't find it anymore. It was also very slow on my Windows 7 PC, but since I have Windows 8.1, I don't have any problems Quote
Jullian_pdx Posted March 1, 2014 Posted March 1, 2014 Another solution is the you can right click in each of the executables that is being used and select properties. There is a selection to permanently configure them to run as administrator. This should fix this particular UAC issue. It could be worse, you could be running Vista. Quote
JM1971 Posted March 1, 2014 Author Posted March 1, 2014 Glad to hear it runs well on 8.1, changing the shortcut properties still gets the prompts in lpub, but I'll look at using a unprotected folder. Quote
JM1971 Posted March 2, 2014 Author Posted March 2, 2014 Ok..... Installed free vmplayer virtual thing and installed ubuntu onto that, but the thing is the linux versions of ldraw is sweet, its just like LDD really, much easier to use for me...PIC Well Chuffed Quote
legolijntje Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 Well, there is no Linux version of LDraw. LDraw is (nowadays) only a parts-pack. The functions and easiness of using the LDraw bricks depends on the CAD/software you use (such as MLCad, SR3D Builder, LeoCad, BrickSmith etc.). In this case you use LDcad (which has a Linux version), but you could've also used in on your Windows too. It has nothing to do with the Linux. There's nothing wrong, just wanted to clarify a bit. I'm glad you're happy with your setup. Quote
JM1971 Posted March 3, 2014 Author Posted March 3, 2014 What I meant was the Linux version is completely different to the windows version, its intuitive and was able to use it without referring to a tutorial because its a lot like LDD. Quote
