Build dimensions and sizes

I am in the process of starting out my journey to create a lego town.

My main worry is build size and dimensions what do you other builders use?

Any advice would be brilliant.

Just add plates as you build it.

It depends on what you are looking to do, but many myself included, tend to use the Modular Standard, which puts the buildings on a 32x32 or 16x32 baseplate, so your layout is effectively a grid of 32x32 plates.
