My rankings on the new sets:

1) Hulk's Lab (the best so far out of the new MARVEL sets). My son loves playing with the exploding parts. I love the minifigures, Falcon is awesome, the new Thor is a nice addition, but the Hulk with purple pants, makes it worth it. Throw in Taskmaster and MODOK? I'm a pretty happy camper.

2) Cap vs. Hydra. This is a close second. I have to say that out of all the new MARVEL minifigures for 2014, Captain America is by far my favorite. It's the Cap we should have had the first time around, you could say it was "the hero LEGO fans deserved, but not the one they felt we needed right then..." It's almost like they took the previous Cap and powerwashed him. And left standing is a solder gleaming, in red, white and blue ready to kick some butt.

3) Spider-Copter. Again, because of the minifigs, Power Man is great teamed him up with Iron Fist already. Mary Jane Watson is a fantastic looking fig -- actually I rank it the best non-hero minifig after J Johah Jameson. The Green Goblin is horrible, but, meh, what are you gonna do? The vehicles I had no interest in and have already sold them -- effectively bringing down my "dollar per minifig" cost way down.

4) Doc Ock. Meh. Doc Ock is OK. Same old Spidey, I literally have 6 extra Spidey's now (more on this below).

5) Electro. I haven't gotten this yet (it's on it's way), but I figure it probably belongs here or tied with Doc Ock.

To conclude, main gripe with the new Spidey sets generally is that they could have thrown in a new Spidey variant. As I mentioned, I've got 6 of these now (sure I traded a bunch, but still, would have been nice to get a newer version like the SDCC. Honestly, I get that they want to give out these exclusive minifigs at first. But then TLG could easily begin to rotate them into the sets a year later. Even if they marketed in a way to force customers to buy the largest set (like they did for Vitruvius in the Lego movie sets), at least we have the option. Nowadays, the SDCC Spidey goes for hundreds of dollars on eBay. It's ridiculous.

My least favourites are Iron Man vs. Trampdarin's shopping trolley of doom, the spider trike vs. electro (only redeeming factor is electro) I'm almost tempted to pick him up on his own online. The other three this year are fine but still sad we never got Malekith or Winter soldier or nick fury MCU.I like the new variants of the big three (only missing iron man). Considering WS they could've at least inserted him in the place of the hydra goon which would make sense. I like in a way they included classic cap (similar to WW2 cap uniform in the film) and falcon in comic design same with electro and goblin even if they are ultimate designs all we are really missing is gwen where mj was and the winter soldier. I hold out hope that we will get another spend £50 and get figure promo this year with Winter soldier or even ASM2 spidey as the one at sdcc could have been a preview for a future promotion like shirtless darth maul was at toyfair 2012.

Why?

I just don't like the look of it with all the huge pieces. I understand what they are trying to do with the Juniors sets, but it's just a matter of preference. I also don't like the minifigure selection. Sure, the bright-blue batman is cool but you just get him, Robin, and The Joker, which are common and easy to get.

Fair enough.

Hmmmmm...good question. I'd have to say it's a toss-up among the latest Batcave, the Batman/Joker Batplane/steamroller monstrosity, and Iron Man 3/Mandarin riding lawnmower from hell sets. The Batcave is a repeat set, and as such, should have been an improved set, not a scaled DOWN set. Batplane that uses wings as pincers, and steamroller with lips. 'Nuff said. And really, any Iron Man 3 movie set with the exception of maybe the Malibu mansion. IM3 vehicles include a cigarette boat that was barely in the movie, and The Mandarin's John Deere with a blowtorch attachment. Turns out The Mandarin wasn't even a villain at all, and that makes the set that much lamer .

Apart from the lawnmower set haha i would have to completely disagree i don't fully understand why but i love the new bat cave with the touch of blue and the bane with drill i thought was a great add on but then with the steam roller set i truthfully think that was one of the best sets of 2014 and it was the first one i picked up and I'm happy to say the bat plane isn't as half as bad as people make out as although lego group uses it as pincers i put it into my custom bat cave closed up so it looks like it is in landing mode so it looks great !

That's a tad reassuring. It's the only thing holding me back from picking it up. Everything else about the set — the colour choices on the roller, the spiffy Joker minifigure, and Batgirl — are all inviting. I wish it was offered on its own without the plane, but alas, I know they had a pricing scheme to adhere to.

Iron Man vs The Mandarin Ultimate Showdown, for the stupid little flame thrower golf cart.

I agree, none of the Iron Man sets were good. A lot of Spiderman sets this year are lacking, but nothing, not even a four wheeled trike is as bad as the gold cart.

Go for the 'roller. The Bat-plane isn't that bad, and you can ignore the function. The steamroller has the perfect combination of colorful and creepy, and the minifgs are great, with two additions to the Bat-family. I think it's worth it.

Okay, so maybe I wasn't 100% accurate because the price holds me back as well. It's $60 here in Canada, and it's harder to justify when I only care about one of the two main attractions. I'll probably have to hold out for an eventual sale. Thanks for the comment.

The problem people have with it (certainly in my case and assume others agree) is that they despise that version of Green Goblin, and hate the minifigure as well as a result. It may be accurate, but I couldn't care less about that when we could have got the vastly superior classic Green Goblin design.

Mines is the Batman Harbour Pursuit set, it`s just messy, with 4 dinghies tacked together and built up to make the jumbled top heavy looking Bat-Boat.It is just a very poor design, it should be a lot sleeker looking and I wish Lego had put the Death-Stroke figure in a better set

My least favorite has to be the 2014 Batmobile and Riddler dragster. The Flash was the only redeeming quality the set had. The Riddler's skinny awkward looking mess of a dragster was, in my opinion, the worst vehicle the theme has had, and the racer Riddler figure, with the two toned legs, zipper and scarf was again in my opinion one of the worst minifigures produced by both the DC and Marvel lines. I never liked the Beware the Batman show and so the Batman variant wasn't one I was too excited to have, and while the Batmobile was fine, we had seen far superior ones.

I agree the Spider-man tricycle set was bad, but for the size and price I feel only half of the set sucked, as I liked the minifigures and Electro build. Idk. This is an interesting thread though.

The Spider-Trik is poor but take the "top part" off it and I think it makes a good water jet bike.

But, the Bat-dragster v Mr. Freeze. Seems poor and lacking even for a $10 set. The only reason I got the set was for Mr. Freeze.

The Batman vs Riddler Dragster set. There are no redeeming factors of the set, besides parts. I got three for $15 total, and that's the only way I would ever see myself buying it.

doc ock's tenticle trap irritates the hell out of me. is has great figures (especially white tiger and vulture) but the build is crap, and it is a fairly expensive set. i still got it (from a friend of mine) and i have to say i really think the build is plain bad and the only thing i really wanted were the figures.

this also seems to be the case with the 2017 hulk vs red hulk set, 4 great minifigures and two crappy builds... i hope lego doesnt continue doing sets like that.
