Superkalle Posted February 16, 2014 Posted February 16, 2014 Check out this video at about 12.45. LDD LEGO-Movie edition...with extra toolbar buttons that does...something. And a stud-less scene floor Quote
pbat Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 LDD LEGO-Movie edition [...] Aiden Sarsfield from Animal Logic, who happens to be the CG Supervisor, comments on the usefulness of LDD in this video: At around 15:20 he says: "[...] but we actually used an off-the-shelf LEGO piece of software, which anybody can download. It's called LDD, which is Lego Digital Designer. [...]" Off-the-shelf which anybody can download does not sound to me like there's a special Movie Edition of LDD. Maybe it's just another line in the preferences.ini or a hidden command line switch that shows those additional buttons. However, if there actually is something like a LDD LEGO-Movie edition, please do post the download link right here. Quote
Shine Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 Oh man I'm jealous. I've always wanted a version of LDD without that stud grid. Quote
Superkalle Posted February 18, 2014 Author Posted February 18, 2014 As a response to this, I was told the other day by the LDD Team there is actually a special LDD version made. What that version contains, I don't know. And what version is shown in the YouTube clip I don't know either, but I'd suspect that special version. And even if Aden Sarsfield is using the Movie version of LDD, he woulnd't say that, so it makes sense he is instead refering to LDD in general, which looking on the clip is almost identical with the exception of those additional buttons. What that version contains, I don't know. And what version is shown in the YouTube clip I don't know either, but I'd suspect that special version. Is there any chance that the general public will benefit from that special version? (I mean, apart from getting The LEGO Movie, the Ninjago Movie and The LEGO Movie II, III, IV, V and VI, of course.) Will it eventually lead to something like LDD 5? And even if Aden Sarsfield is using the Movie version of LDD, he woulnd't say that, so it makes sense he is instead refering to LDD in general, which looking on the clip is almost identical with the exception of those additional buttons. Why should he lie about that issue? I mean it's OK to confess that some special LDD version is used, isn't it? One would actually expect that movie makers use special equipment not available to the general public. So there's no point in pretending the usage of off-the-shelf software which anybody can download, when actually some special LDD editions were used. Or do I miss something? Quote
Superkalle Posted February 25, 2014 Author Posted February 25, 2014 Is there any chance that the general public will benefit from that special version? Will it eventually lead to something like LDD 5? I honestly have no clue. I haven't been told anything by the LDD Team about a 5.0 version, not even if there is an upgrade planned for the 4.x versions. Not lie (did I say that?) - what I mean is he wouldn't say "hey....we used a special version", when the important message "hey, there is a really cool tool called LDD that we've used and that you can download". And as can be seen in the movie....except for some extra buttons it looks identical to the normal LDD. Quote
AndyC Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 I'd expect the "movie" version would include functionality for things like exporting the models as standard 3D formats etc for use by the animators. It's hood to know that TLG are still finding uses for LDD, as it hopefully means we'll keep getting updates whilst they still do. Quote
