This is a nice set but i have always just preferred the Skull's Eye Schooner as it was my first main Lego set and i like the extra cannons and it looks slightly bigger.

The thing is I'm sure if i got the Black Seas Barracuda instead then I'd probably like that one too. Its just the memories i have of playing with the SES under a little table in the living room, preparing all the cannons, moving the rudder via the actual ships wheel and gathering treasure from those damn Islanders, Good times *sweet*

I like the BSB, but I think it should've been a *little*built taller...IE enough to have a deck instead of just a gaping hole, but still have enough room to stand figures up inside.

And I agree with an earlier poster (whos name I forget)...the slanted quarterdeck is a tad silly.

I like BSB very much, i own the original from 1989. *y*

In 1989 I have 10 years, so i play very much with this set (also with eldorado fortress)... in thats years I wish to have Caribbean Clipper but my dad didnt find it at the shop...

and i lose my chance to get the entire lego pirate first wave collection... :'-(

I like this set heaps. Although when you are publishing a pictorial review, you need to be more careful as to make sure you use ' or " instead of ? Good job anyway. Regards, Captain Zuloo :pir-laugh:

I gave 4. When I was young I always use to dream to get that set, but It was too expensive then. Now that I'm 24 year old, I finally made my childhood dream true and bought it from ebay. What still catches my eye, is the bombastic look of it. Colouring of this ship is so great and I love the color of sails too. Cabinet is pride and joy of this ship.

But now that' I'm Adult fan of legos I cant help feeling a bit disappointed how lavishly lego used the space on it. I think with minor changes 6 cannons would have definetely fit in. And if Lego would have done it a bit higher it could have included own small cabinet's for the crew.

It's funny how differently you look these things when you're an adult. Cause if I'd be child again I'd definetely gave it 5 stars I think :)

the same for me.

I'm not really into pirates but I got this ship on ebay with a LEGO collection - without knowing it. It was (nearly) complete but with no minifigs, no instructions or box.

But somehow I really liked this ship and it convinced me to buy some pirate minifigures for this beauty a few days later.

I have always loved this ship. When it first came out I was a little upset that the Pirates had a better ship than the navy - My brother and I had decided as soon as we saw the Pirates range in the catalogue that he would be the Pirates and I would be the Imperial Navy. I bought the Carribean Clipper in line with my agreement with my brother but when as it happens he couldn't afford the BSB so eventually, I bought the BSB myself and did some flag and crew swapping ending up with a navy version of the ship I wanted all along!

Sadly I don't have either the Clipper or the BSB anymore (lost in the mists of moving house long ago) but think I might have to have a look on eBay for a BSB now.......

Great memories. Thanks for the review.

Cheers

I'm still wonderning what are those small booths about ?`(you know which have red windows as a doors)

I've read in some reviews that they're cabinet's for the crew, but I see them more like warehouses/deposits

for the guns and cannon ammunation. Somebody please let me know what lego intended them to be?

I just read that :

*According to Imperialshadows, in the first release of the set in the U.S., the BSB came with shooting cannons. Then shortly afterwards, it came with the non-shooting version. And finally around 1992 in the U.S., the BSB came with non-shooting cannons with the cross-cannons.

I had one, bought in France, It had shooting canons

Did it have firing canons?

Yes...ALL my ships have firing cannons. I also bought some second hand ships, and they have them too, I don't like the non-shooting ones, they remind me way too much about children and the fact children like Lego too.

Americans are stupid enough to point them at ones eyes, so to avoid lawsuits they made the non firing ones...

??? NOT JUST THE AMERICANS, dear Captain Green Weed :pir_laugh2: ....I had to experience that myself the hard way... :pir-laugh:

I think they are supposed to be sleeping/residing quarters for the crew, I think that because of the little doors that end up right next to the cannon...(so the crew could get to them very fast) You only have to use some imagination here, like "mind-creating" some hammots.

mine was the first version , when the re-released it, I was in my Dark age.

Why did you sell it :pir-look: ?

And how much did you get for it?

So considering that amount you got for it, was it worth it?

Are you sorry for having sold it?

How do you feel now, knowing you sold a BSB?

How are you going to do it? With a rope or a gun? Or is there a trainstation next to your home?

Do you think you will be missed?

Why didn't you succeed and why are you back on the forum? Or is that you, Nolanne?

OPTION 1) WELCOME BACK, Guss, and I am glad you didn't kill yourself because of it!

OPTION 2) SORRY NOLANNE (Guss' girlfriend), I really tried to talk it out of his head but he just didn't want to listen to me...BTW are you free next Friday?

I should have included the Belgians ofcourse, how stupid of me.

:jollyroger::shark: GRRRR :pir-skull: f*c* ***, you s*l** ¨ch**se**er! :monkey: You'** a :pir-vader: that looks like a :pir_yoda:

(since some stupid rule states I am not allowed to insult or even disagree with a member of staff):

face now, you salty cheesebeer

I have the Armada Flagship and the Redbeard's Runner both twice, but no BSB :pir-cry_sad:

However, a friend didn't play with it anymore ( his little brother does ) so I could "Borrow" some parts of it.

But I still want the BSB but they are so da* :jollyroger: n** :pir-skull: expensive :pir-sceptic:

The Black Seas Barracuda has always been my biggest want ever since Lego started their Pirates Theme... even though I'm 28 years old, I still want this ship very badly. Everything about this ship is perfect - the colour scheme and details.

But I'm really impressed with the new Pirate ship from the 2009 collection - it really looks beautiful and well designed

Well, you can get one for less than the 80 euro's brickbeards bounty costs. So it is a much better deal. Even if it would me more expensive, BSB is mostly a better deal, unless maybe it would cost twice as much.

This is such a great ship, but you should be happy with 2 RBR's and 2 Armada Flagships, they're both very nice as well (RBR is actually my 3rd favourite ship (shared place with IF), after BSB and SES) and they're both better than the (almost hidious) BB.
