jamesed_1971 Posted February 13, 2014 Posted February 13, 2014 In the next couple of months I am thinking of buying these Lego 9 Volt Trains Items from Bricklink Black Electric, Train Motor 9V Modern (NEW) £40.87 Black Electric, Train Speed Regulator 9V (NEW) £5.95 Black Electric, Train Speed Regulator 9V Power Adaptor 240V (UK) (NEW) £12.47 Dark Gray Electric, Train Track Contacts with Wire and 2 x 2 x 2/3 Brick (NEW) £7.29 4515 Straight Rails x 1 (16) (NEW) £40.94 4520 Curved Rails x 2 (16) (NEW) £15.56 Totsl Cost of above £123.08 What I want to know is how long will the 9 Volt train Motor last if used for 20 hours a week, pulling a three short based carriages with a small Steam Locomotive body build around the Train motor, the steam Locomotive is 8 studs wide and 18 studs long, and each of the three carriage are 8 studs wide and 18 studs long Quote
Lazarus Posted February 13, 2014 Posted February 13, 2014 (edited) Should be good for a while, Its load that will kill them. If the train is about 1000-1500 bricks with wagons should be good. But there is ways to fix the 9v motors. So I would not spend 40 pounds on a new one. You can get two used ones for that price and if that if they do die they can be fixed for about 7 pounds. Also nice cute little train Edited February 13, 2014 by Lazarus Quote
JopieK Posted February 13, 2014 Posted February 13, 2014 Very nice designs! Revising nine volt motors is also an option of course, there are good tutorials available for that at Eurobricks. Quote
jamesed_1971 Posted February 13, 2014 Author Posted February 13, 2014 Ok, I will buy one used Lego 9 Volt Train Motor for £20.52 (Tested and working, with nothing broken), is it worth buying these items as used or should I stick to new for those items Black Electric, Train Speed Regulator 9V Dark Gray Electric, Train Track Contacts with Wire and 2 x 2 x 2/3 Brick 4515 Straight Rails x 2 (16) 4520 Curved Rails x 2 (16) Quote
Lazarus Posted February 13, 2014 Posted February 13, 2014 everything is fine buying used. I would say just get a new Dark Gray Electric, Train Track Contacts with Wire and 2 x 2 x 2/3 Brick as there is versions of this cable that the wire plastic goes bad and cracks and falls off. I have two of these one with this issue one without. Quote
kieran Posted February 13, 2014 Posted February 13, 2014 When i got into 9V all my stuff was used and its still mostly ok 2 of my motors are a little dodgy and could do with new internals but better than £40 off the bat for sure. Quote
jamesed_1971 Posted February 14, 2014 Author Posted February 14, 2014 Below is my selection now, The motor, controller and transformers are used and in working condation, as for the track, I only save a pound or two buying used, so I will buy new Lego 9 Volt Train Track. Black Electric, Train Motor 9V Modern (USED) £20.52 Black Electric, Train Speed Regulator 9V (USED) £3.50 Black Electric, Train Speed Regulator 9V Power Adaptor 240V (UK) (USED) £7.50 Dark Gray Electric, Train Track Contacts with Wire and 2 x 2 x 2/3 Brick (NEW) £7.29 4515 Straight Rails x 2 (16) (NEW) £40.94 4520 Curved Rails x 2 (16) (NEW) £15.56 Totsl Cost of above £93.31 I might look into making Custom Lego Train Track by using 2 x 8 Plates and Peco Gauge 1 or Gauge G45 Rails and Rail joiners (for making wide sweeping curves to handle longer Locomotives and Carriages (over 15 inches in length and less then 20 Inches) Quote
