Now here is a thread for you guys to suggest ways to make things more organized or better in general around here.

I'll try to keep an index of the suggestions in this first post along with a reply to the suggestion so that people can see what has already been posted and why it might not possible to implement or if we're working on implementing it.

Separating SH Discussion into DC and Marvel threads- I'm currently thinking about this. I do think that a lot of the news that we get will be about both together as in the past. And it seems like we'd duplicate a fair amount of discussion.

A New Banner- This is something I've wanted for a while. I'm in talks with the people responsible for such things. I hope we'll get it soon.

I think separating DC and Marvel might be a good idea. If it turns out to be redundant then I suppose we could could put them back together? We might as well see how it goes. As for the banner, I obviously enjoy the Harry Potter one because Harry Potter has always been my favorite licensed thread. Maybe having a character or two from a couple licensed themes in a new banner would be nice. Marvel, DC, Harry Potter, Indiana Jones come to mind. I can't really think of any other big licensed themes but I'd like to see HP still in it  .

Quite some time ago I commented on the forum description, pointing out a number of things I thought could be improved, and though a pretty fair amount of discussion followed, nothing ever came of it. In the thread I've linked you'll find a number of suggestions for what the description should say; while I don't pretend to know which is best, I do think at a minimum that: a) the themes should be listed in some sort of order (alphabetical being an obvious option, though chronological is another one that might work); b) "Toy Story 3" should be changed to just "Toy Story" if it's going to be kept at all; and c) "Spiderman" should be either given its correct spelling ("Spider-Man") or folded into "Marvel" or just "Superheroes" (and if the latter, the same should be done with "Batman").

I agree with the new banner thing as I think it should have a few of the newer license themes like Superheroes and The Hobbit as that is technically a licensed theme in the same respect POTC was. Maybe it could have the main hero from the most famous licensed themes side by side. So like batman in the middle, on either side of him iron man and Gandalf and then on the right next to Gandalf, harry potter and MOS superman then on the other side next to iron man, Indiana Jones, Captain Jack Sparrow and the lone ranger. You could also have In huge from torso up looming behind them Loki, Voldemort and the Joker. Then in movie poster dramatic font the whole eurobricks tagline in the very middle of the banner.

Personally I would like to keep the superheroes topic how it is. I mean we do get a huge amount of Superhero sets, so to have two separate discussions seems silly. We only got 4 DC sets this year which I feel doesn't really warrants a separate Thread. While some may argue that there are also 3 Duplo sets and a rumoured UCS tumbler I still feel two threads isn't needed. I mean we have photos of the Duplo sets and very few people have given them attention. So if we do get a tumbler that's 5 sets which doesn't really create enough discussion for a whole year.

I also feel that in both threads people will be saying the same things. In July for example everyone in both threads will be talking about how much they hate Comic con exclusives. A lot of the posts will just be repeated.

Superheroes isn't the only topic that has multiple branches, Star Wars has both Prequel Trilogy, original Trilogy, Clone Wars, Rebels and soon the Sequel Trilogy., yet they can except a single topic. There are posters in the Star Wars topic who aren't interested in Clone Wars or Prequel stuff, but they don't moan and ask for two topics.

Lastly I doubt two topics will stop the whole Marvel vs DC thing. People will still go between topics and comment how they like the marvel sets more than the DC ones or whatever. As someone who buys both Marvel and DC, I can't see the point of two topics. It will just inconvenience members who like both and really just be pointless. I highly doubt it will solve anything.

On the point of the banner I would love to see a new refreshing banner. Perhaps with a mix of superheroes, turtles and Simpsons.

I don't have much of an opinion on the spliting of forums. I don't see a problem with it.

More importantly though, I think we should update the banner. It would be really fun to set something up like the Pirate forum did and have people submit photos of figs for it. We could include most licenced themes, although I don't think we should include LotR or the Hobbit. They are licenced, but they've been seperated into a different section of Eurobricks.

I think the thing I'd want the most for a new banner is one that changes images at different times of day like the Pirate forum. We could have Lunch with Marvel, sunrise with Princesses, and nighttime with Batman in Gotham! So many possibilities.

I don't think splitting is a good idea. I'd bet most people like both to some degree. It's just the ones who like one or the other who feel the need to fight about it who are screwing up the thread. I'd rather see everyone be much more adult about the discussions. We are all adults abiding by the site age rules, right.....?

Personally, I like Batman the most, but all of DC to some extent. I wouldn't have been able to learn more about Marvel characters, and come to like some of them a lot, without reading and learning in the forum.

Let's all just Keep Calm and Act Like Adults.

I'm already quite annoyed when someone tells me I'm off topic when I feel like I am. Splitting Marvel and DC? Lets not lie. The discussions will often practically be the same and related. In fact I commonly talk about them interchangeably and talk about aspects of each.

Considering people tell me to stay on topic if I talk about the TMNT series a bit in the TMNT lego thread (which I find absolutely ridiculous, it's ON topic it's the freakin' franchise) I'd also imagine if I brought up a Marvel aspect in a DC subsection of the forum, even if it's completely relevant and basically on topic, I'll be told to keep on topic.

Marvel and DC Legos are so closely related don't bother separating them.

The banner should have a minifigure from most themes. I think it should have:

Killer Croc

Cruncher Block

Zuko

Damien Wayne

2012 Big-Fig Hulk

Blue Suit Harry Osborn

Mad-Eye Moody

Twitch

Mrs Puff

Classic Stormtrooper

Creeper Microfig

Doc Brown

It's a bit random, But I think it would look pretty cool.

DC and Marvel are separate licenses, but the information we get about one often comes with information about the other. Some problems arise when the comic rivalry sets in. It becomes less about the actual Lego sets/figs presented, and more about comic/show fans arguing about what should be represented. We have a couple dream/wants threads.

I initially thought that splitting the licenses up would be a good thing, but upon further consideration I believe that the thread should stay as it is. We just have to be mindful of how we share our opinions, and respond to others'.

--------------------

About the banner; yes, it is time to update it. Someone suggested a rotating banner. I think that might be the best way to represent all the licenses covered in this forum, past and present.

I can see both sides on the DC/Marvel issue. As many have previously stated, most of the news is identical. Despite this, I feel it should be separated, it can get damn confusing when four or five people are talking about different things about both licenses. Also news can be confusing, I think the conflict will always be there, you'd get tread hooligans going around more as well if we changed, so who knows? I am an adult, and I hope I don't come across as a four year old in my posts, it's just my opinion. What would happen to the existing topic? Would it get locked, then sunk and unpinned, while the replacements took its place? Any which way I see it, I think it's worth a go. Maybe a poll? As for the banner, I'd like one that shows all of them, Batman or Superman for DC, Captain America or Iron Man or Hulk or Wolverine for Marvel, Harry Potter for Harry Potter etc. Maybe a huge fight scene? Or one similar to the Historic themes, all of them looking at the camera? And one more question, I'm not trying to be offensive, I don't want to seem ungrateful, but is there any update to the review index?

Blondie-wan- that description rewrite hasn't been forgotten. It's been discussed and hope we make progress on that soon. This and Special Themes have the hardest time making a concise listing of themes since we have so many.

Any future banner will be worked on by our admin in charge of such things. He's been busy lately and creating a graphic like that can take some time. I hope that his schedule can free up enough to get this done soon. And I'll keep pestering him about it, rest assured.

As for what may be included, it probably will be restricted to themes that are covered in this forum, so no Star Wars or POTC people.

And one more question, I'm not trying to be offensive, I don't want to seem ungrateful, but is there any update to the review index?

Cloney and I can work on that when we get the time. I'll try to make it more of a priority.

If anything needs a separate thing it's Lord of the Rings and Hobbit being in "Historic" right now... :/

Why, what's wrong with them being in the Historic section?

Unlike pirates of the Caribbean they are set not in history but in a fantasy world. Lets just face it in technical terms they are a licence that Lego has brought the rights to make sets from warner and they are movie based. Surely if it I based on a licensed movie they should be here Just my two pence on the subject.

Actually I didn't think of it like that.

The decision to put LOTR and the Hobbit in History has more to do with building style than being based on reality. The castle theme itself has never been realistic and at times has borrowed heavily from the fantasy genre of which LOTR is a prime example. There were a fair amount of MOCs based on Tolkien's world in History already anyway.

Moving all LOTR from there to here would be a monumental task and isn't something that we're considering right now. Sorry.

I think there are one too many Simpson threads, two in here and one in special. The CMF one doesn't make sense being in the Special forum. It should be in here or merged with the pinned topic. Also people are discussing the Simpson house in the pinned topic and in the house topic. Same with BTTF, some threads are in here but the review thread is in the Special forum.

My two cents worth now.........and it's going to cause even more debate.

New FORUM for Super Heroes separate from the rest of the licensed themes.

Look, the SH theme for Lego was rebooted the other year with DC and Marvel......these seem to be selling very well indeed so I would say a long term theme(s) like Star Wars.

There are enough sets and enough fan of the theme(s) to allow a new forum to cover Marvel and DC Comics sets.

What does everyone else think ? :look:

I agree, separate Marvel and DC topics would be greatly appreciated. They are separate themes listed on S@H. Also when a discussion is happening on say new Marvel products, some posts about DC related things throw off the discussion and make it harder to follow. It would be much more concise with separate dedicated topics IMHO.

Also a new banner would be very nice, incorporating different licensed themes and not just HP.

I agree with LightningTiger :look:

The forum is filled with Superhero related posts and I think it would be better to give it it's own forum (like Star Wars). If it doesn't work out we could always change it back
