I have a Windows 7 64 bit PC. It's running .NET 4.0. I downloaded the EV3 Home Software and it worked fine. Then suddenly whenever I try to open the program it says "Lego Mindstorms EV3 has stopped working" and it prompts me to close the program. I have tried uninstalling the software and reinstalling it but that doesn't work. Any suggestions? Thanks.

look in the following folder

c:\users\"whoever_you_are"\ApplicationData\....

the name might be different depending on your language

for me its C:\Users\xxxx\Anwendungsdaten\

Maybe there is a folder from the EV3 software still containing data, which is somehow corrupted.

Delete that data and than reinstall.

or someone having the software could check where it puts it's data folder.

My windows update is set for automatic updates. Everything is already up to date.

This could be the cause. It is possible the issue is in a windows file. Check for a restore point just befor it stopped working and try that. Remember you may lose files in the process so make sure eventing is backed up before doing this. Good luck

The problem with that is that I haven't opened the program for quite a while so I don't know when to restore. I'm also reluctant to because I don't want to mess up any other programs. Are there any other solutions? If I can't get the software to work correctly is there a way I can recover the files I have made with the EV3 software (there are only 2 of them)? If I can retrieve the files, I can recreate them using the old NXT 2.0 software and then at least I will have my files.

I would gladly try to help you.

try to reinstall dotnet and visual c++ packets from microsoft site.

I have a workstation on which both set NXT 2.0 (home and EDU) + EV3 software.

Everything works, no problems.
