With Classic Castle.com and Classic Space.com and even pre-Classic Space.com (whatever that means...) why is there no Classic Town.com? It is a big pity I think as Classic Castle.com do host many good competitions and fun stuff for their own theme. Is there simply not enough Town fans out there? To be honest I am quite surprised if themes such as Pirates and Space have a larger fanbase than Town/City however is this the case? Judging by the posts or lack of posts sometimes in the EB Town section I think it unfortunately may be .. :-(

Judging by the amount of Town/Train displays at exhibitions I don't think so.

I just think there isn't anyone out there who wants to find enough time to set up a web site/portal and maintain it, the latter being the most difficult. Ask Mr Phes how much time and effort it takes...

i think it most of all has to do with the fact that most sites are in the hands of AFOLS. Current AFOLS branched out when they were young, they had a choice between official castle, pirate and space sets. all those themes were far more attractive for young boys than town... many years later, when they decided to set up a website, they went back to their old themes... Sure, lots of young people buy city sets today, and city is popular in general, but the fans are usually too young, not mature enough to set up and maintain communities and sites.

I also think town lacks cohesion to attract enough people to form a seperate community

Yes it is true that there are many people making cities as one can see on Brickshelf or the MOCpages and alot of them are AFOLs judging by the quality of the layouts & quantity of bricks so I don't know if I agree with your point here Snefroe, although it could be true, I just don't know..

The thing is, Town was around along time before other themes (such as Bionicle, Pirates..) and these new themes have a number of dedicated websites. Maybe Town is just unlucky and will find someone (a) crazy enough and (b) with lots of free time, to set-up one up.

Here's hoping :'-)

For me, the "LEGO Trains & Town forum" on Eurobricks is the place to be if you are a Lego town fans.

So what would be the advantage of having a separate site, portal, community or whatever. On EB you have everything in one convenient place. Isn't that great? I think it is! Having a portal site for a theme like town would be nice, but for me it's not that important. The information on the portal will just be a "summery" of what's in the forum.

Because any Classic-Town website should really be called 'Classic-Emergancy and Transportation' ? :-D

I think there are really two reasons behind why there isn't a call for a Classic-Town.com

1. The town theme, as it exists today, really isn't set-based, but more MOC-based, like the Mecha theme. The vast majority, at least as far as I can tell, of LEGO town sets are either firehouses, police stations, or transportation related. There really are only a handful of houses and commercial buildings that were ever available. Most town builders seem to build their own stuff, so its hard to build a website around a theme with no real set foundation (I'm not saying impossible, Mechahub seems to be doing well).

2. Town and Trains have become more-or-less connected. The big town builders seem to belong and build for train organizations, so they tend to stand together as a single theme. And a lot of them still hand around Lugnet, too, so they have no desire to leave (pretty much got the place to themselves, now ;-) )

I don't think it's because of a lake of city fan that there no "classic town" website.

Maybe it's because train and town has never really be discontinued, contrary to Space and Pirates. And even if this theme had a dark periode during the end of the 90's and the begining of the 2000's, it has reborn quickly and in a better way than Castle has done with KK. So maybe the nostalgia of the 80-90's sets is not as strong as for those other themes, even if it's here...

And I think that it's because of the time. Because, having a website with news needs a lot of time. I remembered that I have made a wensite about my town. I wanted to create a "weekly news", a kind of newspaper with the principal events of the week in my town (new election, escape of a criminal,...) But I didn't have the time for this so I left my website.

And after, I discovered EB, with this Train and Town forum and city news. So why looking for another place when I can find here some nice mocs?!

I agree that the town website would only be the summary of the forum, or lat's say a index of it. But still it could show kinda evolution of the theme. Like Simon's bike evolution clicky.
