Hmm, I wasn't expecting these yet. What I like: Galadriel, new Elrond, Twilight Witch King, new Orc hairpiece, King Thorin, Dain, and large BotFA builds. What I don't like: no Bolg, no bear Beorn, no generic dwarves, no generic elves, no new Thranduil, no generic human, no ram, no boar. I'm fine with this wave but would have liked more. I was at least expecting Bolg, an elf, and a ram. I doubt we'll get an exclusive for Target or something, but we can hope for at least one. The only army builder we can get for a poly would be an Orc, I think we might get that.

Overall they look pretty good, but I'm disappointed that there are no generic dwarf or elf soldiers. I love the look of those new orcs though! Their hairpiece looks great, and it looks like they have new facial printing! The orcs in the battle of five armies set appear to have recolored uruk-hai printing though?...

Thanks for the pics.

Witch-King Battle

All three minifigures look amazing. The build, while small, fits in nicely with the Dol Guldor sets we have and has a nice assortment of parts. Looks like it could work as a nice army builder too.

Lake-Town

Better than I was expecting. I'm sure it will look great alongside the previous Lake-Town set. Love the new hairpieces for the Orcs.

Battle of Fives Armies

Dain looks awesome and I love that we're getting Thorin with his crown. More orcs are welcome and the catapault looks well designed. Pretty disapointed with the rest of the character selection though. Another Azog instead of Bolg? Another Legolas instead of armoured Thranduil? Another eagle over Bear Beorn? Another Bard - who's already in the Lake-Town set this wave - over an Iron Hill Dwarf? I think they could have done better here.

And to make the end of the Middle-earth line even more painful, the smallest set has the title of one that should include a fell beast, an armoured Witch-king and Eowyn.

Don't remind me. The ONE female character I wanted most from this line - the one that actually mattered is likely never to happen now. :cry_sad:

I'm afraid we can omit the 'likely'. :( The only way I could imagine Eowyn (and Faramir, by the way) to make it into LEGO would be via a direct-to-consumer Minas Tirith set.

One thing I like about the smallest set of this last Hobbit wave is that I can use two Elronds, swap his head & hairpiece and get wonderful representations for Elladan and Elrohir.

I'm not sure why people are so surprised we didn't get a ram. I mean think about it, Lego probably wouldn't be able to use that expensive mold in any other themes and definitely wouldn't be using it in any more Middle-Earth sets. Why would they spend the money on something so spendy when it would only be used in one set? The eagle makes much more sense. Beorn would have made the most sense though. Lego could of just used the existing bear, gave it a new print and ta-da! Bear form Beorn at a minimal cost. Not perfect due to size, but it definitely would have sufficed. I guess the reason Lego had the eagle was to include all five factions from the Battle of Five Armies in the set (Bard for humans, Legolas for elves, Azog and Orcs for orcs, Dain and Thorin for dwarves, and eagle for.. well eagles)?

At any rate I seriously doubt we will get a store exclusive, and a polybag seems unlikely. If by some chance we DO get a polybag, I really hope it's the orc with hair though. We haven't gotten a bad guy army builder polybag in some time. I would imagine the named good guy polybag would be Thorin. Those would make this pretty sub-par wave ever so slightly better.

It's hard to say from the blurry pics. I thought they were just existing prints mixed and matched to make "new" looking minifigures though. It looks like the existing Gundabad face print and possibly the Uruk-hai print on the brownish tan Mordor Orc bodies? The torsos are definitely re-hash prints.. Mordor Orc and Gundabad Orc torsos. Nothing new about them.

And to make the end of the Middle-earth line even more painful, the smallest set has the title of one that should include a fell beast, an armoured Witch-king and Eowyn.

Knowing what we do now, I REALLY wish the Council of Elrond set would have been scrapped in favor of a Witch King Battle set. It could have been $30, had a molded Fel Beast, Eowyn, the Witch King, and maybe a Gondor Soldier (or two.. or orc) with a small ruin or wall piece. If the Fel Beast mold is too expensive to put in a smaller set like that they should have put it in the Black Gates set and saved the eagle for the Orthanc and BoFA sets. In terms of minifigures, the Black Gates set should have had the same Gondor Soldier instead of one of the Mordor Orcs. Throw in a Gondor Soldier polybag for more army building appeal and BAM! Lego would of basically filled the giant hole in their LotR line with minimal effort. The only figure we would be missing is Arwen then, and honestly she wouldn't be missed by most if we had the Witch King, Eowyn, and Gondor Soldiers in her place.

Pretty disappointing... I kinda like the sets, but I also find the figure selections disappointing. The orc faces are nice, the orc hair is GREAT, and it's novel to see the Mordor orc torso again the Lake Town set (tired of the Gundabad print, even tho I still don't have any of them).

The lack of Bear Beorn and an Iron Hills dwarf is almost painful (with the missing Thranduil, Bolg, and armored elf not far behind). It's making the probable end of the Hobbit line just as disappointing as the probable end of LOTR... so many major gaps.

But at least the Witch King set is useful for elves and populating Weathertop with Frodo-vision wraiths.

I'm hesitant to pass judgement until we get better pictures, but it looks like the smallest set is the only must-buy from my perspective.

Three great, exclusive figures in one set (although Elrond does look a bit like the polybag from a couple of years back). Compared to the endless rehashed figures in the other sets. The builds also look pretty ordinary - particularly Battle of the Five Armies.

The first waves of LOTOR & the Hobbit were great but they've really dropped the ball since then.

Yeah, it's hard to tell whether anything besides the hair pieces are new. I just meant that the new hairpiece/orc combination looked pretty good. All of the torsos are rehashed, which is disappointing.

Looking back at the sets again, I'm really feeling pissed, and majorly discouraged. It's seriously like TLG doesn't care about the Middle Earth line hardly at all?! They didn't even have the $25 army builder like they've had before (UA, MEA), which would have been PERFECT here. It's THE BATTLE OF FIVE ARMIES! Put in 1-2 armored elves and 1-2 armored dwarves, along with some armored orcs (they don't even have to have any new helmets), and it would have almost redeemed this line, and sold like hoth cakes.

To think this is probably the last of Middle Earth Lego.

Damn.

I just don't get it.

I like the Witch King set. Lake-Town set is a nice build. It would have been nice to get a few more characters, but I'm still happy with what we did get.

Thanks for the pics!

Witch King Battle: Looks like everything I expected. Hopefully Galadriel's second face will be her more "queenly" look. I wonder if that is the starglass she later gives to Sam. Three good figures at a good price. Absolutely will purchase.

Lake Town 2: I figured Tauriel would be there. The previews for the movie feature Legolas and Tauriel quite a bit, so the rehash was anticipated. Surprised to see an identical Bard from the last one, especially if this is meant to add on to the prior set. The omission of Bolg here is a surprise. The orcs, not so much, since you need some kind of conflict in the absence of Smaug. Bard firing the flick fire black dart suggests that Lego expects you to buy another set to complete the picture. Which one could that be? </sarcasm> I also could have sworn that the windlance was at the very top of the tower, yet the Lego set has it below the top. Maybe the movie will explain this scene a little better.

BOFA: Not the worst case scenario at least. I remember the London reports stating there were only 5 minifigs, but there are more. So that is a plus. The omission of Gandalf is another plus. Thorin looks good, well done to the designer. Glad to have Dain, he is the new guy we all cannot wait to meet. Azog we could have done without. If you someone to buy Dol Guldur to get your Gandalf, how come this cannot also apply to Azog? In an ideal world, an Iron Hill generic dwarf would take his place. The two generic orcs are not surprising, given the nature of the battle. Bard I suspect is here to have the set live up to its name, the Battle of Five Armies. He represents the man faction. Tough to tell from the photo, but this might be the SDCC printing. In defense of Lego, the eagle is here, because it represents one of the five armies as well. Sure, I would have liked a ram, a stag, or a big bear. Surely, when the eagles arrive in the movie, it will be a memorable scene. Then you have Legolas. Sigh. That is all I have to say about him. It looks like they have rehashed to some extent the ballista from the Uruk Hai Army. It looks like Saruman took notes from BOFA! We pretty much figured this was not going to be an army builder set with Dain and Thorin already expected. I guess Lego assumes you have bought prior sets so you could use your Mirkwood elf army, Lake Town Chase, Dol Guldur 1 and 2 to add to your fight scene. Just pretend like Azog, Legolas, and Bard have twin brothers, and you will be fine. :sadnew:

Is it the worst thing in the world? No. Could it have been better? I think we all know the answer to that.

You can bet on it! It's another way to tie in the Hobbit and Lord of the Rings movies. Just wait for Galadriel to call out 'Aiya Earendil elenion ancalima!'.

It's wonderful to finally get pics!

I'm on the same page with everyone else as far as the highlights and disappointments in this wave.

If TLG misses an opportunity to repurpose that dwarf helmet in a polybag (or any other way for that matter), I really have to question their judgement. A generic dwarf soldier would sell out almost instantly.

Looks great!!

Bit disappointed with the Bain and the Legolas rehash but still!!!

Loving the look of Galadreil, the minifigures are definitely the highlights of these and the sets not so much... Quite looking forward to seeing the full BoFA set...

Laketown looks 'OK' still think I'll get Santa's Workshop modify it and add it to my collection.. :D

The Dol guldur set looks the best for value but I sadly don't have much room left on my compartment with DGB on it...

Ok wave, not the best wave but still quite good..
