DonBrizzel Posted January 4, 2014 Posted January 4, 2014 Here is my version and the scale I need for my TIE Fighter. Vader's Advanced I will be building next. I could not figure out how I like my detail on the wings, and will most likely fiddle with that some more until I get it right. Has the guns, but I couldn't figure out how to get the engines on here, maybe I will do a sticker. I feel silly posting these mini mocs now that a 71,000 piece SSD showed up Quote
pihlbrick Posted January 4, 2014 Posted January 4, 2014 .I feel silly posting these mini mocs now that a 71,000 piece SSD showed up Don't feel silly! Anyone with enough time and dedication could build a 71000 piece SSD, the real challenge is to build with only a few bricks and make it look realistic and to scale. (Don't get me wrong I am seriously impressed with Fox Hound's LDD SSD) Quote
BEAVeR Posted January 4, 2014 Posted January 4, 2014 Nice addition to your line of mini's. You stuck some great SNOT in the cockpit. The beams that connect the wings and the cockpit are amazing as well. Really well done! I'm stuck myself with a micro TIE-fighter (20 pieces max.), so I've given it a lot of thought already. Maybe I can help you refine your model further. To make the cockpit window stand out more, maybe you could try to use a small flat bevel gear there. Those ridges would convey the feeling of the octagon shape of the cockpit window more. You could use this piece as wing detail as well, ressembling the imperial logo with additional greebling. Also, consider using bars instead of tiles to make the grey stripings on the wings. Maybe just a small trans blue tile could work as an exhaust engine. Don't worry if you don't get it quite right from the first time. You've already made some great steps, and in my eyes, the TIE fighter is one of the hardest ships to recreate in this scale. Good luck! Quote

Good luck! Thank you very much for the ideas! As far as the engines go, they are on the outer rounded part of the back, not the middle, so they are not going to make it on. I tried using bars instead of the striped tiles, and it was almost too much gray because they are so thick on these mini models. I do love the idea about giving the window more detail, and will try that out as soon as I get home! Also love the idea of using it as the imperial logo! As far as your micro TIE, I have a bunch of ideas for you, if you would like them, I can throw a sample LDD together and send it over to you! Quote
