i think the functions of the 42024 are working well, but the cab is a bit ugly. ok this is solved very easy and a battery box fits in the new cab too

do you have ideas for improvements too?

Now you mention it, I do. I like your new front. Why not double up the rear wheels and make another skip to fit inside the existing one. I've seen skip trucks with two skips on before, then show us a video of it in action. Also, could you add pneumatic out riggers. Please.

The tipper looks even smaller with 8109 cab.

To change that, and given that you have now the battery box in the cab, the idea would be to shorten the chassis between the back of the cab and the front of the tipper.

You may be able to shorten the model by 4 or 5 studs (odd numbers for studless will make things simpler). But for that, you will have to redesign the whole chassis.

You can also try to make the tipper 1 stud wider. It will either scrape the red arms, or be better maintained. Dunno. Just try !

8109 cab looks lovely but doesn't fit a 'workhorse' truck like a skip truck, imo. It's too 'sleek'/'modern'.

Beautiful cab, but it looks more like it should be carrying a trailer now  wrong cab for this skip truck. I was once talking to a skip driver, he reckons that other truckers look at skip drivers as bottom of the pile truckers! I told him that elitism seems to breed everywhere...

But still great work.

I think your changes to the container truck have made it far better looking, efferman :classic:

Agreed. I might actually build this version. The original is very underwhelming.....

Now that is a very smart cab, and should have been on the skip truck from the start. The only problem is that TLG would not have put a similar cab on two very recent models - 8109 and this one. The sleeker arms are also a big improvement.

When you see what could be done, it makes you wonder why the model was launched as it was. I suppose price point is what determines parts used etc.

I wonder if new designers are having a go.

I'd say they already did so. The 42024 cab looks very similar to the 42008 cab.

It's strange that nobody showed a motorized version of 42024 yet. Accidentally I've found this post on a french LEGO Technic forum: http://forum.brictechnic.fr/viewtopic.php?f=115&t=5580 (I hope there's nothing wrong with posting links to other LEGO forums  )

Long story short:

1 L motor for propulsion

1 M motor for outriggers

1 M motor for container operations

1 servo motor in the cabin for steering

2 IR receivers

1 rechargeable battery

It looks like it's time to unpack my set :)
