KiwiFalcon Posted December 29, 2013 Posted December 29, 2013 So I just got the Lego Mindstorms EV3 set, and it contained an IR Beacon. It has the channel slider, the buttons with blue in between, and the buttons with red in between, (BTW, it would be nice if someone told what they were) and the big grey button at the top. The big grey button, as far as I know, and some googling is supposed to change the IR Beacon from beacon mode to the control mode. Well, I was making Spik3r as my first project, got to challenge 5, and you are supposed to but the IR Beacon into beacon mode and place it on the ground, and the robot will shoot at it. At first, I thought it was a problem with the eyes, but it's not. When using the 4th script (where if it detects movement it shoots there) it works fine. Trying to fix my problem, I found out the IR Beacon was supposed to have a green light in beacon mode, and mine doesn't have one. I thought it might be a problem with the robot, so I built Track3r which also has a beacon mode bit and that didn't work. On a Lego Education website it said the IR Beacon needed 2 AAA batteries. I tried to find a place to put the batteries, anything to open, nope. Locked tight unless I screw it open (or break it). I read around the forum to try to find a solution and you guys seem to know a lot about Lego, so I was wondering, maybe you guys have a solution? Is the IR Beacon defective? Am I missing a battery port? Am I doing something wrong? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you. Quote
Splat Posted December 29, 2013 Posted December 29, 2013 Check page 3 of the 'Track3r' instructions : http://cache.lego.com/bigdownloads/buildinginstructions/6052132.pdf With remotes, typically the battery compartments are screwed closed. I think this is so that little children don't open them up and eat the batteries, or something like that. So yes, you have to unscrew this compartment, and put in 2 x AAA batteries. Quote

Very sorry about the trouble I gave you! Completely blanked through that slide multiple times. I screwed it open knowing I wouldn't damage circuitry anymore, put in the batteries and it works fine! Thank you very much, and sorry for the trouble I gave you! Quote
