Vee Posted December 14, 2013 Posted December 14, 2013 How is it possible that a product that has the tag "NEW" at Lego Store is already sold out? http://shop.lego.com/en-US/Studio-21050?fromListing=listing Does this usually happen, Lego being unable to do the right math of how many units they need to manufacture to avoid this situation? Sometimes I think Lego is a sadistic company. They produce some sets in few quantities on purpose just to see their price rise in the parallel market and make some after-market sellers happy and the general population upset. Quote
AndyC Posted December 14, 2013 Posted December 14, 2013 Probably because it was a limited initial production run. I guess TLG weren't really sure what demand for a set would be like, it's fairly different to existing product lines for example. Hopefully if it really is doing that well it'll get subsequent productions runs and become available again. Quote
Faefrost Posted December 14, 2013 Posted December 14, 2013 That was a fairly small run unusual product. And it has been out for about 2 months now. So it is possible that it did sell better than expected, and sold out the initial factory run, or has sold out at some stores or the warehouse. I think my Lego store still had one or two of them as of last week. Quote
Vee Posted December 14, 2013 Author Posted December 14, 2013 So, does it mean that when the Lego store has the "sold out" tag in a product, it may return? Because they also have the "out of stock" tag that always carries some date for when it is expected to be available again, even if the date is generic. Quote
Faefrost Posted December 14, 2013 Posted December 14, 2013 There seems to be some vague and almost random nature to S@H's tags such as Sold Out, Out of Stock, Retiring Soon, etc. I suspect that Out of Stock means that they know there is a new batch in the production chain. Sold Out means they do not yet know or have confirmation when or if they will be getting more. Quote
bartvdpoel Posted December 14, 2013 Posted December 14, 2013 The good news is that there seems to be a larger than expected demand for such a product. So we'll be seeing more products like this (I hope). Quote
DrJB Posted December 14, 2013 Posted December 14, 2013 I saw it at the lego store in Chicago ... being only a collection of 'common' white bricks, I doubted it'll sell this fast ... Quote
dr_spock Posted December 15, 2013 Posted December 15, 2013 I guess it sold faster than they expected. There are job openings at Lego for planners if you have a good grasp on predicting supply and demand. Quote
Vee Posted December 15, 2013 Author Posted December 15, 2013 If the job opening were here in Maryland, I certainly would be interested. Quote
dr_spock Posted December 15, 2013 Posted December 15, 2013 If the job opening were here in Maryland, I certainly would be interested. They seem to be mostly retail store positions in USA. There is a production planner opening in Hungary if you're willing to relocate. Looks like they are expanding capacity in that country. Quote
andibandit Posted December 15, 2013 Posted December 15, 2013 I saw it at the lego store in Chicago ... being only a collection of 'common' white bricks, I doubted it'll sell this fast ... i was reading thru the reviews and it seems the 272page architecture book is the main lure of this set. Quote
Vee Posted December 16, 2013 Author Posted December 16, 2013 i was reading thru the reviews and it seems the 272page architecture book is the main lure of this set. By the way, is there someone that could send the PDF file to me? I know that Lego removed it from its website, so they surely don't want this file to be distributed because I agree with andibandit, but since Lego did put it available for a certain period of time (until they regretted the decision), I wonder if it was possible for someone to send the file to me. I am new to MOC and although I have read that the book has nothing much new to experts, to me it should be like a bible. Anyone? Quote
zux Posted December 16, 2013 Posted December 16, 2013 (edited) Check Brick Owl Edited December 16, 2013 by zux Quote
Vee Posted December 16, 2013 Author Posted December 16, 2013 (edited) Check Brick Owl I already had checked. Redirects to Lego site and Lego has removed the link. On a side note, Lego has changed the status of the set from "Sold out" to "Call to check product availability". That should mean something... Have you noticed the tag "GIRLS" for this set? Not for boys.... I feel bad... Edited December 16, 2013 by Vee Quote
zux Posted December 16, 2013 Posted December 16, 2013 (edited) My bad, shared wrong link. Correct one or you can search for 6062928.pdf Edited December 16, 2013 by zux Quote
Vee Posted December 16, 2013 Author Posted December 16, 2013 Yay! Got it! Thank you! Thank you! Now let me see if the set was worth its retail price... Quote
