1nxtmonster Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 (edited) Hi guys. I'm back with my latest ongoing build, an 8x8. Each axle has it's own ball-joint suspension, so the ground clearance and articulation are both very good. Independent steering on the two front axles using two M motors. Two XL motors for drive with a final ratio of 3:25. Overall a very sturdy and well-performing truck. Edited December 10, 2013 by 1nxtmonster Quote
Doc_Brown Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 pretty cool man! Its coming along nicely. My only concern is that the front set of wheels steer independently from each other. I'm not sure why you have done that, or why it would be advantageous to have them independent? any ideas for a cab? Quote
Rockbrick Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 (edited) Looking very robust and the gearing seems right... perhaps a servo for the front steering... i see no advantage independantly controlling the front steering like that (I suppose your intention is to connect both M motors to the same channel eventually anyway) but its just calling out for larger after market tyres... they look too far apart with standard lego ones.... (sorry purists) Edited December 10, 2013 by Rockbrick Quote
TinkerBrick Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 The performance is great. I wish my 9398 would do so. But the movement of the independently steering front wheels remind me somehow of the eyes of a chameleon. Quote

I intentionally had the front steering be independent so that i would have a greater control of movement. Also, If they were on the same channel they would get out of sync with each other very quickly since there is no physical linkage. In the video, it seemed to be a disadvantage, but that was likely because I was trying to steer, drive, and film at the same time :) Quote
1nxtmonster Posted December 10, 2013 Author Posted December 10, 2013 Bodywork ideas: possibly some form of 8x8 unimog??? (Those exist, right? I was on mercedes' website last year and saw 8x8 utility trucks...) Quote
Junpei Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 Looks good so far, and a Unimog body is always good! It looks like the springs are a bit too hard though. Quote

Yeah for Unimogs! :) I've done some outdoors testing, and the suspension it a tad bit stiff, but with a cap, fenders, and rear cover, I think it will end up about perfect. And a video of some outdoors snow testing: [embed] [/embed] Edited December 11, 2013 by 1nxtmonster Quote
Junpei Posted December 11, 2013 Posted December 11, 2013 Oh yeah, I guess it will be quite a bit heavier. BTW I think you have deeplinked the wrong video. Quote
Doc_Brown Posted December 11, 2013 Posted December 11, 2013 Snowwwwwwwwwww! Really good performance, and as you said it is a little stiff, but after weight should be perfect! Quote
