Gee Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 Do such things exist? I've looked at a lot of the trial truck and crawler MOCs and they all seem to use studless as the main way of constructing the suspension and steering systems (and of course the body). A lot of the crawlers and 4x4s seem to use the portal axles off the Unimog and also the steering ball joints. I see that a fair few people use studded bricks to create rc'd MOCs, but they tend to be big heavy trucks that, whilst being hugely impressive, don't have the same level of suspension articulation. I'm not meaning to start a convo on the value of studded over studless at all (I've read that thread ), I'm just thinking out loud really. Quote
Junpei Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 (edited) I'm building one right now, although it uses a few studless parts because I needed to shorten the wheelbase and get more gear reduction. I think there is a site called Texbrick (?) that has a studded crawler axle in one of the pdf's on the site. Not sure about the crawling power of those old square motors tho. Link: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=89351#entry1759514 I even used some of the old 24t gears for steering. Edited December 9, 2013 by TwentyLeggedHen Quote
MrNumbskull13 Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 I use studless in the axles because it is much more compact, but sometimes I make my chassis' partly studded because it is very rigid. Quote
Gee Posted December 10, 2013 Author Posted December 10, 2013 Cool, I'll see if I can find that site. I'll keep an eye on your crawler MOC too! No worries about the motors, I've bout an XL and a M motor to power my old studded Technic. I can use the independant suspension off the front of the Test Car, just maybe beef it up a bit. Or there is the option of trying to come up with a bespoke steering system, but that may be too advanced for me for the time being. Quote
Gee Posted December 10, 2013 Author Posted December 10, 2013 I think that this is what you were alluding to: http://www.texbrick.com/articles/4x4.pdf Plenty for my brain to munch on here! Quote
Lakop Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/search.cgi?q=Trial%20Trucks&stype=f&n=6 See above link to Brickshelf. Or you can always google "lego technic trial trucks" etc. H Quote
