ACPin Posted November 26, 2013 Posted November 26, 2013 Gladiatoral games often were held between various Roman nobility who owned stables of gladiators that have been trained specifically for the games and where the victors represent their owners in the bigger amphitheaters. Too busy for the past month and finally got time to finish this. Preliminary pics like this have been taken, will just need to make sure if any retakes have to be done. The interior arena is done, working on the viewing stands from both sides. While the arena is still a work-in-progress, I've done some different types of gladiators to be used for it. Retiarius, Thraex, Murmillo, Provocator, Hoplomachus, Murmillo/Thraex AC Quote
Ludzik Posted November 26, 2013 Posted November 26, 2013 Love the gladiators and the concept of arena, but I'm wondering about the smooth tiles on the floor.... most gladiator arenas I'm thinking off would be uneven dirt? Quote

That's dirt just didn't want the studs showing up. Updated with new pic. AC Quote
Infernum Posted December 7, 2013 Posted December 7, 2013 That gate looks great! Love the use of Brickwarriors accessories! Quote
Ludzik Posted December 8, 2013 Posted December 8, 2013 (edited) That's dirt just didn't want the studs showing up. Updated with new pic. AC I know that it's easiest to nitpick but how about throwing in a cheeseslope or something in there? or some darker 1x tile (wet dirt? :) ) Edited December 8, 2013 by Ludzik Quote
gazumpty Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 I love the detail on the gate :) I'm kinda with Ludzik on this one....I think the arena floor would require some more (uneven) detail. Though with the impending bloodshed...you might want to keep all the surfaces smooth and easy clean for the guy with the mop and bucket :) (that would be a great post battle scene here) Quote

songwm Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 Wow the gladiators and the arena are both very cool, well done!! Quote
mrcp6d Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 Looked good while in progress, looks great now that it's done! Quote
Torgar Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 Nice job! I really like the sense of action inside the arena. Quote
TeufelHund Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 Very nice - but how about a bit of "Blood on the Sand" - a little claret would spice things up a bit methinks. Quote
Doom2099 Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 Outstanding! I'm so glad Lego is making enough historical characters that there are so many pieces nowadays to mix and match. Great work with the minifigs and the stadium! Quote
Sir_Basil_Ashton Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 Bravo, bravo. This turned out really outstanding. I really like all the different Gladiators you were able to create. There's the perfect amount going on. Action in the arena, spectators and Gladiators waiting for their turn. Quote
ACPin Posted January 28, 2014 Author Posted January 28, 2014 Wow the gladiators and the arena are both very cool, well done!! Looked good while in progress, looks great now that it's done! It just took longer to build than anticipated due to the holidays. Nice job! I really like the sense of action inside the arena. Minifig posing consumed a lot of time after the structure was done as I'd like the diorama to convey a story. Very nice - but how about a bit of "Blood on the Sand" - a little claret would spice things up a bit methinks. Not a fan of blood and gore as a lot of younger viewers look at my works too. Outstanding! I'm so glad Lego is making enough historical characters that there are so many pieces nowadays to mix and match. Great work with the minifigs and the stadium! Still need more of them to be produced. Bravo, bravo. This turned out really outstanding. I really like all the different Gladiators you were able to create. There's the perfect amount going on. Action in the arena, spectators and Gladiators waiting for their turn. I did mention earlier that I've used third-party accessories for the gladiators combined with the purist ones. AC Quote

Steel Tiger Posted March 28, 2014 Posted March 28, 2014 (edited) This mod turned out very well! I can't criticize too much except for one thing. If the ground is smooth (studless) in the arena, shouldn't it be smooth in the viewers section? You would think that there would be less action in the stands, and more in the arena, causing the arena to be rougher looking than the stands? Just a thought. Also, if you wanted to take this to the next level, you could always make the coliseum as the outside. Edited March 28, 2014 by Steel Tiger Quote
