Graynar Posted April 4, 2007 Posted April 4, 2007 Hey guys, The newest set of my custom Exo-Force theme is finally finished! You can also check out the first two sets here. Notes: Before you read the review below, I hope you read this first. Because I need to explain a few things. All of the Golden City invasion buildings have interchangable roofs that can be removed and placed on any of the three buildings. I call each of the three buildings modules, and all three can connect with eachother in different ways. You will also notice numbers on most of the pictures, all they do is help organise my Brick Shelf folder a little better, example, all pics with a 1 on them correspond to Module 1, and so on. And one more thing, if I say GC, it is short for Golden city. Now then, onto the set. As usual, here's a fake LEGO set version: I would advise resizing the fake box art pic above, other wise it looks disorted which is not cool. *n* Here is the whole city minus two vehicles. And here is the figures (7). Left to right: Takeshi, Unamed GC (Golden City) soldier, three generic GC soldiers, Devastator, and an Iron Drone. These are all the building modules seperated. Note, they all can connect in different ways. That's why I call them modules. Module 1 This is the first Module, it consists of an armoury, removable roof mounted turret, switching wall, and a cargo hold. The two pics above are the interior of module 1 and two different roof variations. And for some wierd reason, every time I make this post longer, it refreshes and I lose everything. So I'm going to post the next 2 modules in 2 seperate posts. Quote
Graynar Posted April 4, 2007 Author Posted April 4, 2007 Module 2 Also called the command Module, this tower is the main part of this set: Here is the main tower all together. Click Here to see the tower seperated. I really like this picture here, it basically shows everything inside the command Module. Prison Pod Click the pic above to see the simple prison pod. I really like its design. Module 3 Module 3 contains a missle turret, monorail, and a tower. Like the other 2 modules, this tower's roof is removable. The monorail can also connect to either of the other two modules. The other two pics above are just the Module 3 seperated, and the two roof variations. Next post will be my last, and it will contain the vehicles and misc pictures. Quote
Graynar Posted April 4, 2007 Author Posted April 4, 2007 Vehicles From left to right: Monorail car, GCI mech (Golden City Infantry), Duel Chaser hover bike. Golden City Infantry Mech (GCI) This mech is a small, but it's pretty powerfull. The GCI mechs usually travel in squads to fight the enemy with support. They are normally piloted by GC pilots, but because I needed a hero in this set, I put Takeshi in the driving seat. Click the above pic to see the interior and read more info on the GCI mech. Duel Chaser This bike is cool, but just wait until you see the drop ship that will be inconjuction with this set later on. Monorail Car Hehe, not much to say on this, just that it is usefull for carrying ammo and it travels on the rail found in module 3. City Combinations As you can see, the 3 modules can all be combined and connected in differen't ways. This might actually be a fun set to play with if it was real. Misc And that's it for this set. I hope you enjoyed it. And I think I have one last set to show you guys then I'm done my Exo-Force Campagin. Maybe I'll make Pirates next, who knows. ;-) Golden City Brick shelf Gallery The Whole EF Gallery My BrickShelf Folder Your comments and critique are appreciated! Thanks! Quote
Kikuichimonji Posted April 4, 2007 Posted April 4, 2007 Very, very nice! I could mistake this for an official set, it's that good! Great photography as well! I'd just make a different robot vehicle, I don't like this one too much. Quote
Trionx Posted April 4, 2007 Posted April 4, 2007 very nice! *y* it reminds me of the old city sets a bit, what Exo-force sets did you use? Quote
Zaktan of the Shadows Posted April 4, 2007 Posted April 4, 2007 Good job on it! looks very golden city-ish... except, of course, the mini-figs. KUTGW! Can't wait to see your next moc! -ZotS Quote
Khorne Posted April 4, 2007 Posted April 4, 2007 It looks pretty good, very TLC looking. My only complaint is that it doesn't really look all that 'gold' :-/ . I think it could use a bit more gold ;-) . Also, the GC soldier(the glasses one) looks kinda odd. His red arms are clashing with the blue on his torso. I think he would looks better with blue arms, but if you change them, he doesn't fit in with the rest anymore :-/ . I don't really know what to do with it. Ditch him and add another robot maybe? Brainbox Posted April 4, 2007 Posted April 4, 2007 I see you've really gone to town with the inter-connectivity/module thing. Or rather, "I see you've really gone to city with the whole inter-connectivity/module thing. Anyhow though, this is pretty good. *y* I like the GCI mech. Nice balance of gold and otherwise. The monorail car is kind of cute. Quote
zero1312 Posted April 4, 2007 Posted April 4, 2007 Very, very nice! I could mistake this for an official set, it's that good! Great photography as well!I'd just make a different robot vehicle, I don't like this one too much. I have to agree, this looks really official *y* . I also think an actual robot mech is needed for this set. ;-) Quote
Corvus Posted April 5, 2007 Posted April 5, 2007 Yeah, it does look pretty official. That monorail system is good, and the whole set compliments itself nicely. *y* Quote
JoeMI6 Posted April 5, 2007 Posted April 5, 2007 Some more astonishing work here! I always love seeing your mock up sets, they've got such polish on them. The monorail system looks great, and I think TLC should take note of all the cool features you have ;-) Quote
Asuka Posted April 5, 2007 Posted April 5, 2007 Very good indeed. *y* I like your modular building style, very brilliant. The color scheme is beautiful and your mech and that hover bike are really cool. Clever designed with a lot of intelligent features like that prison pod, the neat container and this monorail car. Zarkan Posted April 6, 2007 Posted April 6, 2007 Once again, Graynar, you really have me impressed. This is probably your best set yet, and for good reason! Besides the great modular building system, the base itself is a beauty! The color scheme makes it look right at home on a side wall of the Golden city, and the interior is very nice. And the GCI.... :'-) Just awesome. Only con? The Robot vehicle. Sorry, but it looks a bit thrown together compared to everything else, and I don't like the color scheme. Still, that is overshadowed by the awesomeness of the base and mech. Great job as usuall, JT Revival. :-P P.s. LOVE the fake box artwork. What program did you make it in? Quote
exo attack Posted April 6, 2007 Posted April 6, 2007 Cool, I really like this. I like the detachable modules, thats excatly like real sets. I also like the box art. If this were a real set, I would try and buy it. Although, it really does need more gold. If you are good at exo force MOCs, i can't wait for pirtaes1 :-P Quote
Graynar Posted April 6, 2007 Author Posted April 6, 2007 Thanks for the replies everyone! I'd just make a different robot vehicle, I don't like this one too much. Still, that is overshadowed by the awesomeness of the base and mech. Great job as usuall, JT Revival I guess I should explain the Robot mech in this set. Originally, I had this awesome dropship built for this set, but I thought it looked too big in comparison with the rest of the set. So I decided to put t in a seperate set. I also had other plans for a differen't mech, but I just wanted to post this set after such a long time. ;-) Zaktan of the Shadows wrote: Good job on it! looks very golden city-ish... except, of course, the mini-figs. KUTGW! Can't wait to see your next moc!-ZotS Thanks. BTW, what does KUTGW stand for lol? Darth Bionics wrote: what Exo-force sets did you use? Well, the only exo-force sets I have are: Grand Titan, Uplink, Sentry, Gate Assualt, and Claw Crusher, and I pretty much use mostly the figures and stickers from those sets. Some of the dark red from Gate assualt was used in the buildings of the GC. And lot's of mech peices from my other sets went into the GCI mech. KhoRne wrote: It looks pretty good, very TLC looking. I don't really know what to do with it. Ditch him and add another robot maybe? Well I don't have a lot of gold LEGO, so I used what I had. I suppose using yellow would have worked too though. Personally I liked the figure in person, but I see what you mean -the red and blue do clash. If I had Hikaru, then he'd replace the GC soldier, but I don't. But using a robot instead would have been a good idea. *y* Brainbox wrote: I see you've really gone to town with the inter-connectivity/module thing. I used the GIMP for all my special effects and such. The system isn't as good as photoshop, but it still des a pretty good job. ;-) exo attack wrote: Cool, I really like this. I don't know if priates will be my next theme, but we'll soon see. *y* PS: My quotes aren't working for some reason. I don't know what I did wrong...did I exceed the post memory size or something? 8-| Quote
exo attack Posted April 6, 2007 Posted April 6, 2007 KUTGW means Keep Up The Good Work. Also, I am guessing your dropship is teh next ste, I can't wait to see it either. Seeing you made it t go with this est, will it be up soon? Quote
iamded Posted April 11, 2007 Posted April 11, 2007 Wow... this set is just amazing! I would definitely buy this set if it was an official LEGO set. Everything about it... there's nothing in there I don't like, except for the GC guard. I don't know, I just don't like him. The other 2 generic figures are cool, and the GCI mech is awesome! The construction of the building really gives it that Exo-force look, which I like. The monorail is awesome, although if it were a bit longer, and had another defensive car, like in the Sentai Fortress. But how it is now, it's amazing, it's awesome! I think LEGO should make it an official set. :-P I could go on saying how amazing it is, but I better stop. X-D Looking forward to seeing your next creation! Quote

I have admit that I don't really like the GC dude either, but if I had Hikaru he'd be in the set instead of the GC dude. Oh well, I still like the set. *y* Quote
dillthepill Posted April 20, 2007 Posted April 20, 2007 Very cool! Currently I am working on a huge robot fortress with two battle machines, some repair stuff, a gate, walls, jetpack infantry, and much more. Quote
