DrJB Posted November 24, 2013 Posted November 24, 2013 (edited) This may not be 'happy' thread ... unless you're the person who won those actual auctions. But in any event, maybe worth sharing. On occasions, I did bid on attractive deals off eBay, but because of various circumstances ... I did not win that auction. 1 - 8450 (2x, not new) - two posts, the same week, under $100 each. Missed out because I was traveling in Italy, listing ended at 3:00AM local time, and hotel WIFI was 'crappy' 2 - 5571 (not new) - Sold for $180!!! - I was in a meeting a work when auction ended ... Darn! 3 - 9797 - Someone snuk in and beat my highest bid in the last 10 seconds 4 - 7905 (NISB) - sold for $120 - I gave up as the person I was bidding against had zero history (seemed fishy) So, what have been your 'disappointments' ... ? peter_m Posted November 24, 2013 Posted November 24, 2013 I have missed a lot of deals due to lack of money :P Quote
Theo van Vroenhoven Posted November 24, 2013 Posted November 24, 2013 Sounds like it is about time you should use Auctionsniper! Quote

D3K Posted November 24, 2013 Posted November 24, 2013 Recently someone posted on finn.no (Norwegian sales site) a whole lot of sets at ridiculously low prices (8421 for 60 EUR, 8043 for 70 EUR, and a whole lot more). Naturally I was all over it in no time, and had almost sealed the deal on some of the sets, when the seller e-mails me and tells me he had to up the prices, due to a lot of people mailing and calling him, telling him he was selling it way too cheap, and thereby - and I quote - "ruined the value of LEGO by doing so"! Anyway, I ended up not buying the sets I initially wanted to buy Quote
Doc_Brown Posted November 24, 2013 Posted November 24, 2013 I missed out on 8880 MIB (not sealed) cos of $5. Sold for $305 :cry_sad: Quote
OzBen Posted November 24, 2013 Posted November 24, 2013 Doc_Brown won a 8466 that I had my eye on last week, I was busy at work and missed out on it :-P Quote
DrJB Posted November 24, 2013 Author Posted November 24, 2013 (edited) Silver Champion 8458 (2x), auction had 2 built (F1 car and truck). Auction ended at 5:30 AM, Woke up early to catch it ... someone above suggested I look at AuctionSniper ... While checking that out, I missed auction by 1 minute ... darn darn darn ... Both sets sold for $128 !!! And, somehow eBay's clock was faster than my computer's by 2 minutes !!! Time to go back to sleep I guess ...:( Edited November 24, 2013 by DrJB Quote
S.I Posted November 24, 2013 Posted November 24, 2013 I don't see the point of the auctionsniping, if I know I'm willing to pay up to X$, I just bid that once I see the auction, and either the guys using those tools are willing to pay >X or not. Quote
OldBuilder Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 Missed out on 5550 today as I was at work and missed the notification on the phone and it went for $37. Most upset Quote
Rockbrick Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 Nearly always my failures are because the vendor does not ship to my country or does not take paypal (in germany they do not have to and prefer bank transfer... ) I swear by auction sniping - yes you set your limit conventionally but with sniping you get to do it at the last second almost and that stops stubborn a$$h0l3s outbidding you because they can or want to or have nothing better to do plus its easier to set up a sniping group - and keep adding to it and and set it to one item and the sniper will stop when you are successful It can take a couple of months to get one of what you want but be patient....
