Chorduroy Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 Hi all, At our last Lego show we had a contest where we had to build a vehicle for one of the Series 11 collectible minifigs. Here is my entry - a roller skate car for the diner waitress. This was a fun build and waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay out of my comfort zone! photo by Chorduroy, on Flickr photo by Chorduroy, on Flickr Quote
WaysofSorting Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 Wow. Super cool. Is the chassis mainly hollow, or is it pretty much a solid build? Just wondering. Not because I want to stick my foot in there, but It would be great to see a bunch of these. Does it curve in on the other side? Or is this for either foot? That seems like many skates I rent...they never fit right. Reminds me of Richard Scarry illustrations. Very cool. Could envision a "roller derby" race of many of these cars. Why did you choose this size? (As opposed to say, a go-kart?) Did you do any pre-builds or digital design first? Quote

Plus, I thought those white arches would be perfect for the contours of the top and back at that scale. The chassis is solid. It is basically straight up and down on both sides. I think I would have struggled to get it to curve for the arch, but that would have been better for sure! I just started building and went from there - no digital design. Quote
B Rick Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 That is awesome!! It reminds me of one of the showrods of crazy 70's or maybe 80's... Way cool that it's sort-of lifesize as a real rollerskate. I don't recognize the parts you used to make up the sides of the engine. Looks great. Quote
WaysofSorting Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 You should totally rename this thread to indicate it is, indeed, a roller skate hot-rod. I think it turned out great and would like to see more big vehicles themed this way. Were there any other notable entries for your LEGO group's contest? Quote
eurotrash Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 That's fantastic! Very impressive curvatures at the rear. Quote

This is the only other photo I can find: Series 11 vehicle by Dodge..., on Flickr There were 7 other entries I think ... I will maybe bug the other members of the group to post theirs here ... Quote
