Chorduroy Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 (edited) Hey all, I really love the BC Rail colours, so that was the inspiration to build a Dash 8. There's always compromises when building locos and this build was certainly no different. I had the angled in section behind the cab originally, but it looked really bad, so I took it out. I'm sure there is a way to do it that looks authentic, but I couldn't figure it out. My plan is to build another one to run at our next train show and would like to improve on this if I can. Please feel free to give me any feedback you have that I can incorporate into its twin! I will be adding the decals once I get them made up as well. JopieK Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 Nice work Chorduroy! Maybe those small minifig neck parts will let the frontlights look even better Quote
Chorduroy Posted November 22, 2013 Author Posted November 22, 2013 Nice work Chorduroy! Maybe those small minifig neck parts will let the frontlights look even better Thanks! I don't have any of those neck brackets in red - I will see if I can come up with something though! Quote
JopieK Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 They do exist though: http://www.bricklink.com/search.asp?itemID=11304&colorID=5 Quote
davidzq Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 Looks rather nice, and I like the scheme too. One way you could seamlessly attach the angled in sides is to use 1x2x1 panels snotted on their sides or 2x tiles (or larger). I used both of these on the rear of my F59PHI and F40ph. Quote
galacticslave Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 What a great colour scheme and you've captured it particularly well in Lego. Quote
LEGO Train 12 Volts Posted November 23, 2013 Posted November 23, 2013 Nice locomotive with amazing livery For the front I suggest to use the slope 1 x 1 x 2/3 (part 54200) instead of the tile 1 x 1 Quote
zephyr1934 Posted November 24, 2013 Posted November 24, 2013 Looking good, and should look even better with the decals. Since you are going that route, I would agree with LT12V that using the cheese wedges on the nose would look better, but I would go one further, probably use the 1x2x2/3 and do it in all white. The slopes line up perfectly at 1.5 plate offset (I think they did it on the Maersk loco too). Easiest way to get that 1/2 plate offset is either headlight bricks or brackets. Then put a decal on top of that for the red stripes. Quote
Hey Joe Posted November 24, 2013 Posted November 24, 2013 That's a cool livery, and it takes me back to my brief visit of Vancouver. Your model really looks great, although I'm not so crazy about the checkerboard pattern on the front. Maybe horizontal stripes or a solid color would be better? Joe Quote
Commander Wolf Posted November 24, 2013 Posted November 24, 2013 The 1x1 tiles are a really interesting choice for the stripes in the front, but It doesn't quite suggest stripes to me. Since you're already making decals, I'd consider making the nose a solid color and using decals for the other color. Also it should be 8-wide Quote
Chorduroy Posted November 25, 2013 Author Posted November 25, 2013 OK, the consensus seems to be that I need to change the nose. I will try that and see how it works out. The red stripes should be fairly easy to do in a sticker. Thanks for the feedback all! Quote
