The Architect Posted November 19, 2013 Posted November 19, 2013 I have: These sets are all sitting in my cupboard doing nothing. They are 100% unused. what i want to known is do you experts here think smashing them up and using all the pieces to build something is a good idea or a foolish one. Yes I know its strange to have all these sets and to not use them, but the fact is that I do have these sets and do not use them. Thanks guys. Quote
Legonardo Posted November 19, 2013 Posted November 19, 2013 Option c, send them to david is best. Im 100% moccer and nadda a collector, i havnt built a set for over a year (apart from build in a bag at con) so my opinion is clear, but best get other opinions Quote
The Architect Posted November 19, 2013 Author Posted November 19, 2013 (edited) And throw away nearly 1000 dollars of Lego? I might consider it . Edited November 19, 2013 by Mandalorian Architect Quote
Redhead1982 Posted November 19, 2013 Posted November 19, 2013 I do both, build sets and MOCs. And there's always a time when a set is recycled to build a MOC. Just having them is not worth the price. Their value is in the bricks, so I'd say: ''Go and build something!''. Quote
The Architect Posted November 19, 2013 Author Posted November 19, 2013 Ok thanks Redhead1982 I appreciate your opinion. I think that I will end up smashing em. Quote
Brandon Miller Posted November 19, 2013 Posted November 19, 2013 Couple of those I'm considering getting for their bricks alone. I have no desire to build any of those. Quote
dr_spock Posted November 19, 2013 Posted November 19, 2013 I do both. For the sets I don't have emotional desire to keep assembled for display any longer, I part them out for MOCs. Ones I really like, I keep on display for a long time. I can accept Christmas presents too. Quote
Legoman of War Posted November 19, 2013 Posted November 19, 2013 I say break them up and build something else. That is what they are for. If you decide later you want to rebuild those sets then you can. LMW Quote
Andy D Posted November 19, 2013 Posted November 19, 2013 Look at al the colors! Look at all the parts! Build something! I look at LEGO parts as art supplies. While I do keep some sets assembled, I keep them displayed. If they are not on display they are in pieces to be used for other things. Break them down, build something! Andy D Quote
Lord Vladivus Posted November 19, 2013 Posted November 19, 2013 I build the sets, and then they're dismantled and are parts sources for MOCs. Sometimes they survive as a built set for over an hour! Quote
Hrw-Amen Posted November 19, 2013 Posted November 19, 2013 I guess if you really do not want them made up you can 'carefully' take them apart to use for a MOc or two. Do not 'smash' them as even if they don't break you run the risk of scratching some bricks. I do buy sets to keep made up myself and also some just for bricks. What you need to ask yourself is if you build a MOC, will that actually get used? I mean how many adults use LEGO in the same manner as a child does? I use my rains and part of the reason I like to build trains is that they can be used rather than just sitting there doing nothing. But if you build a really nice MOC, beyond display value are you going to use it for anything? I think for many of us the display is the use? Quote
The Architect Posted November 20, 2013 Author Posted November 20, 2013 Sometimes they survive as a built set for over an hour! I lolled at this . And i forgot to mention these where in storage too Quote
LegoDrake Posted November 20, 2013 Posted November 20, 2013 I suggest keeping the ones you like as sets and scraping the others for bricks. My sets never last very long, the urge to build is to strong. Of course, if you really need to get red of them, I might be able to take them off your hands. Quote
kabel Posted November 20, 2013 Posted November 20, 2013 I build the sets i buy for my kids and smash the ones i buy for myself or much rather never put them together in the first place. However, i do have a hart time taking my mocs apart. That said, if you are a builder and not a collector you should take them apart, but don't smash them, you might break parts! Quote
mechamike Posted November 20, 2013 Posted November 20, 2013 Good decision , now go build something nice from the pile and post here at EB! Quote
The Architect Posted November 20, 2013 Author Posted November 20, 2013 Will do I started a couple of hours ago im roughly a quarter through. Quote

If you dont mind me saying, i dont know what you plan on building, but if its a castleish housey thing id suggested the Lion Chi Temple. Edited November 21, 2013 by Mandalorian Architect Quote
