Wolfpack. Unfortunatelly, they don´t have any oficial larger set. Like the Bull's knights. Two really interesting fractions from older Castle sets, and underutilized. When I see the last Castle series, or licensed sets ... A loads of new parts and less of Lego spirit. The Fantasy Era sets were like new hope, but then ... straight way down. I think just because the Fantasy Era sets would be lower price, than LoTR, and ligicaly competitive. I hope, after the fever with Hobit movies will be the right time for new Castle.

So once more: My favorites are Wolfpack. :classic:

Hmm, I'll be boring and say Black Falcons (I was born in 1993 so I didn't get any of those of course, but I bought one from a friend when I was little, for 10 SEK, which is about 1 Euro today)... Have gotten a few more recently off Bricklink. I also love the Wolfpack and the Fright Knights.

Kingdoms was an awesome range of sets of course... and I actually love the new Lion guys. But I'm hoping for a return of the Black Falcons or Wolfpack. :) I might post my Black Falcon "army" soon.

Maybe it's just that those were the factions I had because they were more around my time, or because all of the Crusaders, Black Falcons, and Forestmen were really well-worn by the time they were handed down to me, but I have always been more of a Dragon Masters, Royal Knights guy. Heck, I'd even throw Dark Forest in there (I hope I won't be crucified for that). But a lot of these factions were ridiculously awesome.

Well, the first faction I got as a kid, and thus the one for which I have a soft spot are the Dragon Masters. Though the Wolfpack and Bull Knights seem like more interesting factions.

If by Lion Knights you mean the contemporaries of the Black Falcons such as in set 6062, then I am dead locked.

The Lion Knights and the Black Falcons were so good because the complemented each other. In my room, neither was completely good or bad. Sometimes one would be the aggressor or the other. The Forestman would be rebelling force of the peasants in a Robin Hood scenario or a guerilla force against the Black Falcons.

I really liked (and still do) that the heraldry of the Lion Knights looks British. I had been confused about the heraldry of the Black Falcons but my Mom suggested they were German.

If I have to pick one, I pick the Lion Knight (version 1.0.0). I can't make a Black Falcon victory too easy.

Black Falcons because they have a special place in my heart (not physically embedded I mean  ). They are the figures that came with the first Lego Systems set I ever had and it was a random gift from my father when my family went to a Lego exhibition 25 years ago in Australia. At the end of the exhibition, my father asked my brother and me which one set we would want, and I got the 'Castle Guard' set. Good memories!

The lion was an EXTREMELY common symbol used in heraldy, not just for the British. It could represent any number of nations/duchies/counties.

And while birds of prey were also very commonly used, it was almost always eagles - not falcons. And while eagles were indeed used in heraldy in some parts of Germany, they too were used many other places as well - especially in East and South East Europe, like Russia, Poland and the Balkans. Especially two-headed eagles were popular.

The Black Knights are my favorite thanks to their castles, but Eagle Crest and Lions Crest will always be up there for me too.

I also think it's funny how when we were kids we had our own names for the teams, but thanks to the web, all the names are easy to see.

Yeah, it was a nice touch when you got to name them as a kid x) The names I used were pretty unimaginative though, I guess... "Lejonriddarna" (The Lion Knights = Royal Knights), "Fladdermusriddarna" (The Bat Knights = Fright Knights), "Drakriddarna" (The Dragon Knights = Dragon Masters) etc.

Edit: In the Royal Knights faction, these were the names for the individual guys when my brother and I played:

Kung Arthur (King Arthur) = http://www.bricklink.com/ml/cas060.jpg

Rikard Lejonhjärta (Richard Cœur-de-Lion) = http://www.bricklink.com/ml/cas063.jpg

Prins Valiant (Prince Valiant) = http://www.bricklink.com/ml/cas067.jpg

We also had a second King without a cape that we called Prince John... x)

Among the Fright Knights, we called the Bat Lord "Greve Fladdermus" (Count Bat) and the witch "Matulda"... :S

Black Knights and the Forestmen. Can't really separate the two in my mind. These are the only two castle factions I ever had as a kid, and my forestment were always stealing treasure from the corrupt Black Knights. Hours of fun :)

I love all of those early castle factions, I wish I had more of those sets.

Crownies. Man, I loved that line, it's probably my all time favorite theme, next to LOTR/Hobbit. But definitely my all time favorite non-licensed theme. Great figs, builds, colors. Fond memories.

I was sad that I missed the Black Falcon's fortress reprint in 2002. I had so many dreams about getting that set as a child but could never get it because I could never save enough (with 50 cents per week allowance makes it quite hard for me to have enough $$ to buy that).

Probably Dragon Masters, for nostalgia. They were the current theme when I got into castle. Even though Dark Dragon's Den isn't a very good set, I sure loved it when I got it as a kid! Plus I loved the dragon wagon and the catapult with the brick-built dragon head. Still one of my favorite siege engines. After them, the Lion knights from King's Mountain Fortress are pretty cool. As much as I love the fantasy line and the kingdoms factions, nostalgia kinda wins out.

I had four factions as a child: The Lion Knights (Lion Crest/Crusaders), the Eagle Knights (Black Falcon), the Dragon Knights (Black Knights) and the Forestmen (which I don't remember what was called back then).

My very first castle set was the 6023 Maiden's Cart, and I guess it might be the reason why the Lion Knights were my favourites. At least until I got 6085 Black Monarch's Castle, or Dragon Knights' Castle, as it was known to me. After that, it changed.

Funny thing is, that the castle is called the Black Monarch's Castle, as there were no clearly marked monarch. To me, they were knights. Seldomly I had more royal people than the Maid who was queen.

Since that time, it has been more difficult to remember all the factions. I have some newer ones, but they'll never compete with nostalgia
