Hello, I was shocked to see that, after a search of the Historic forums, that nothing like this existed. If I have missed the topic, could a MOD please merge/delete this existing one. Right, this is going to be a long list, any explanations as to why I've done what I've done will be under the factions name if needed, and I will post my opinions later on. Here are the options, with a link to respective Brickset pages, I've only listed Castle stuff, but for the sake of this being a Historic Forum I'll add the Ninjas, Wild West and Vikings groups at the end to please every one. I've missed LOTR as I'm not familiar with the factions, if a MOD wants to add them in I'm fine with that, If I've missed anyone out, please do say. So, without further ado,

Yellow Castle era:

There where, by my count, six or seven different factions from this era. As they don't have names, I've put them into one group, as calling them “the Purple Crown Guys” or “the red Triangle guys” will make it just a bit more confusing. If the MODs think I should separate them, I will.

Few, so, that’s it folks, who are your favourite castle faction/s? Credit goes to: Brickset, the 2013 Castle thread for giving me the idea to discuss are favourite castle factions and Steve's LEGO Blog.

Well, I can't really choose between the Vikings, the Crownies or the Black falcons. I don't own anything from the Black falcons, but they are amazing. The Vikings is the theme that really got me into Lego. Before that there was some city and creator stuff, but when I went to Legoland Billund for the first time, there were the Viking and I fell in love with them and the other Castle themes. The vikings are just great!

Ok, the Vikings are my favorite :laugh:

The "New Dragon Knights" from Kingdoms (2010-2012)...

The dark green looked amazing and they were the only castle faction, using dark pearl grey for their armor, which is sadly gone now during Castle II, replaced with regular black...

Well Indians, cowboys and Union men are hardly castle factions. Western is a historic theme, but not a castle one.

Despite that fact, I'd still go for Union soldiers.

Yes, but still I thought that if I excluded them (the union guys), some people might complain as they are after all in the banner for the Historical forum. As for mine, its really tough to choose between them, for me it'd be between the cowboys (you've got to love those broken teeth and huge moustaches) , the Black Falcons, the original Lion knights, and the Black Knights. After much deliberation, IMHO, the Black Falcons. They are the most distinctive, most unique faction out of Castle. You can immediately tell its a Black Falcon when you see either the minifigures or the crest. Unlike the Lion knights and particularly the Black knights, they have never lost their identity, never had the shield reused on another Castle faction or their colors, so they really stand out among the crowd so to speak.

As much as I love the black falcon insignia, the black knight and wolf pack were always my go to groups. It helps that the black knights have my favorite lego castle. (As seen in miniature form in my signature)

Gonna be so boring with my answer but The Black Falcons, of course. Is there any cooler more slick kind of dudes in Lego Castle

Guardians of the Grey Castles never heard the slogan/name before

I like also the Kingdoms Lions, they have a nice design with the dark red and gold and silver mixture armors.

In some US catalogues of the time they where called "Guardians of the Grey Castles", not very catchy is it? Still, some still call them that, like the eagle crest and the Lion crest, so I put it down on the list.

I too favour the Black Falcons. They are nicely ambiguous on good or evil scale and have distinctive heraldry and colours. And pretty good sets too, like possibly the best siege engine Lego has ever produced - it's so beautifully grotesque and utilitarian, and shoots rather well. I'm a bit too young to have really experienced the heyday of Black Falcons, I was more concerned with being born, learning to walk and all that stuff, but luckily I have a five years older brother so my childhood collection included/includes quite a few of them. Maybe that's part of the reason why I favour them so high, they were sort of "stuff of the legends" for me even back then.

Other great factions from the days of yore are Forestmen and Wolfpack. Of the numerous lion factions my favourite is Kingdoms lions. In the dragon category, on the other hand, I can't pick a clear favourite, there's too many good ones.

I think as many have noted, Lego really have done some simply fantastic factions, they all have their pros and cons, their castles, parts, colours, figures etc. I shamefully forgot about the Forestmen in choosing The Black Falcons, so I'd have to say the Forestmen would come second, I hardly have any but the ones I do have I love. Just some wonderfully executed designs with them, as well as their forestly domains.
