DrJB Posted October 29, 2013 Posted October 29, 2013 (edited) I have not had the 'courage' to recycle chrome parts (from SW Naboo Fighter) nor those in silver from 41999 ... yet still want such accents in my builds. Have you done your own 'custom' silver/chrome parts? If so, what's your recipe, specific type paints, any pre-painting (washing+soap ...). Edited November 1, 2013 by DrJB Quote
Marcel1980 Posted October 29, 2013 Posted October 29, 2013 (edited) I just order them through bricklink. There is a store that only sells custom chromed parts. Even on order. The store is dutch. Called Bricks4all Chrome&Engrave Edited October 29, 2013 by Marcel1980 Quote
Jody Meyer Posted October 29, 2013 Posted October 29, 2013 i have made a few phone calls to a local shop for prices, not cheap but with come out just stunning, gold was about 50 pc. for 500.00 us, chrome just a bit under at 465 for the same amount, and nickel which i thought would be interesting to see was 425. for the same amount., there are also kits Quote
DrJB Posted October 30, 2013 Author Posted October 30, 2013 For silver-like finish (or even gold/copper) I was thinking of a can of Krylon spray-paint ... anyone tried that? Quote
le60head Posted October 30, 2013 Posted October 30, 2013 Great topic! I've been thinking about using acryllic nail polish. I am interested to see what other people have attempted themselves :) Quote
Sariel Posted October 30, 2013 Posted October 30, 2013 Why going the hard way? http://www.bricklink.com/store.asp?p=Aurimax That's what I used for: Quote
DrJB Posted October 31, 2013 Author Posted October 31, 2013 (edited) Looks very promising ... but expensive as well (shipping). Anyone knows of a local (US) chrome place? On a different note, do you have instructions for such masterpiece? Edited October 31, 2013 by DrJB Quote
Marcel1980 Posted October 31, 2013 Posted October 31, 2013 Sariel never makes instruction. Unfortunately. Quote
VBBN Posted October 31, 2013 Posted October 31, 2013 For silver-like finish (or even gold/copper) I was thinking of a can of Krylon spray-paint ... anyone tried that? If you are going the paint route I would go with Alcad II lacquer mixed with Tamiya chrome silver that is mixed to the same consistency. I've used it on custom transformers in the past and it looks fantastic. It's a bit darker than what Sariel has there, but as long as you want chrome parts, it's a decent route to go down. Can't make any gurantees about preventing chipping though if you go with paint, especially on studded parts and whatnot. Quote

Check out this forum thread: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=674441 I haven't tried any methods personally, but this one looks very promising and lowest cost. Quote
Doc_Brown Posted November 1, 2013 Posted November 1, 2013 (edited) I'll probably be attempting this soon, as my chrome parts on 41999 sure are scratched! haha Tho they do look like more of a flat chrome colour. Edited November 1, 2013 by Doc_Brown Quote

Sariel Posted November 1, 2013 Posted November 1, 2013 On a different note, do you have instructions for such masterpiece? Yes, this particular model comes with a complete instruction: http://sariel.pl/down/mb540k-bi.pdf Quote
