Does anybody know this monster?

crane_1.jpg

Sephirot8082 has designed here one of the best mobile cranes i know(at least the best blend of model+technic upperstructure+boom) and for sure (at least IMHO) the best outtriggers: 2 section gliding with pneumatic stands ...

AFAIK there is also a really impressive tow truck made by him... seems that he is the man for really heavy equipment ;-)

One more variant - these outriggers are really working! 16 pneumatic cylinders rised 11 kg model under surface!

For me the Term best doesn't mean biggest... It is no problem to design biggest outtriggers... Sorry, to be honest but these outtriggers do not really impress me... The ones of sephirot8082 are so well blended and realistic, they just look like real ones not like Lego ones, the yellow ones in your picture look like Lego ones If you know what i mean

It looks like its only 1 boom extending, with the main one swinging out. Both outriggers wouldn't fit inside the body if both sections slid out. Looks great either way though!

I think it is not all about the length to which outriggers extend. But it is their effectiveness in providing stability to the vehicle. Some of my best "outriggers" did not extend at all, but provided great support to the vehicle and took the load off the axles. The longer the outrigger, then you face the challenge of minimising the deflection in the outrigger structure.

Mine will not actually lift the model but provide more support and looks to the overall model.

Another good one here:

Not mine of course, just found it today. Seems to be pretty strong. Also note the 4 section boom, it looks great.

The crane would of been better if they were based like on the 42009,but a good crane just the same.

This is the essence. I strongly agree with every words.

Anyway there is no best ever. Always can be built a better one, but also important, what is the goal with the outrigger.

In our current MOC, we have decided to scrap our idea of having outriggers that slide out, in favour of two jacks that are fixed to the truck chassis. For our purposes, we have found this to be much more effective.

Would you like to share more info about the ''we''? :classic:

Maybe that's what I need... a building buddy.

Myself and my ten year old son. Sometimes it is good to have a younger perspective. He normally conducts all the field trials of what ever I make. Also my MOCs give him a serious "cool" factor, as these models are usually more awesome than anything that his school friends can put together.
