DrJB Posted October 16, 2013 Posted October 16, 2013 (edited) I was just at the store (15-Oct) and they had about 40x sets of the 41999. I spoke to the store manager as I had called few weeks ago and was told they were sold out. He mentioned those were in a 'surprise' shipment and they were not expecting them. So, for those of you who have not had your chance yet, do not give up, and pay frequent visits to your local Lego store. Good Luck Edited October 16, 2013 by DrJB Quote

JM1971 Posted October 16, 2013 Posted October 16, 2013 I think people were hoping for links to buy from. Your right though, persistence will get you what you want, inquire at shops their delivery days, ask them if they can hold one for you. Quote
mingot Posted October 16, 2013 Posted October 16, 2013 Thanks so much, just called my local store and they have some in stock, as well. Going to grab one tonight :) Quote
nychase Posted October 16, 2013 Posted October 16, 2013 I grew up in that area. I just talked to them and they will not ship (no surprise) and will not hold for pickup. The guy on the phone seems to blame people for buying them up in bulk and reselling them for why they are so rare at the regular price. Which leads me to this. From now on, if Lego wants to make something exclusive, they should just do what they used to do. Release it for a few months and then just cut it off without explanation. 8275, 3450 (statue of liberty) and even 8288 to a degree are examples of this. That way, no feelings are hurt and no lego profiteers (as I call them) ruin it for everyone else. As a full disclosure, Yes, I do sell both on bricklink and ebay but I certainly don't go and clear out stocks of items so others can't buy it. Most often I am selling things that I purchased in bulk from someone else and I am just selling off what I don't need/want. Quote

I don't think TLG has handled this as well as they could have done - and by increasing the hype all they have ended up doing is feeding more sets into re-sellers hands. I have tried to get a 41999 here in the UK, and S@H quickly became useless. So I rang up my local store in Manchester (80 miles / 2hrs away) and amazingly they had some in stock. Got there early and was greeted by a queue. there were only 12 people in front of me. When the shop opened and filed people in 2 at a time, the first TEN CUSTOMERS bought the maximum of 2. Everyone else went home empty handed. There are now 5+ on ebay selling for £500, 3.5 times more than retail. There's a point to the rant, as nychase said, I don't think TLG has done themselves any favours here by announcing a limited 20,000 stock, and also increasing the desirability by having the Dark Blue and Matt Chrome exclusive parts. What they need to do now is release a 2014 flagship in Dblue that lasts in the market for 18 months like the 8258 and the 8297 were, which won't devalue the 41999 as a product, but will at least bring the MISB price down to earth. The only problem is, how would proud owners of the 41999 feel about this, who bought the set as TLG inteded - to be built, driven, and played with? Quote

Don't you have friends in the area who could pick one up for you? I'm quite a drive from Schaumburg, or else I would. Thanks so much, just called my local store and they have some in stock, as well. Going to grab one tonight :) Very welcome ... glad it worked out for you. Quote
nychase Posted October 16, 2013 Posted October 16, 2013 My mom still lives in Gurnee which in itself is a decent trek to Woodfield. Honestly its OK. The model itself (while great) isn't deserving of such crazy efforts to obtain one. Thank very much for the offer... I was just hoping to drive up some conversation that perhaps can prompt change with how TLG handles exclusive sets in the future. Quote
